If you buy the Rubblemaker and change its size mode without leaving the merchant window, the sell price will change. The small mode has the full sellback price, but the other modes sell for the normal sale price.

The Rubblemaker changing states is actually changing into an entirely new item. I don't think it would be possible to maintain its sell value across transformation. It would be like opening a boss bag and having the items inside match the sell back for the boss bag.
