Sandgun projectile does not drop as item

It is mentioned that sand blocks that fall (when they are trying to land on a invalid block, e.g. torch), they will drop as an item.
And when fell from above onto (e.g. glass kiln), they will drop as a item.

However the sand ball projectiles that is shot from the sandgun will not drop as a item (and will instead disappear) when the sand ball projectile touch on a invalid tile.

For example, shooting at torch(es) placed under some blocks. The projectile will hit the block, (presumably turning into sand blocks first,) then disappears without dropping an item.

Shooting at a chest (among other things) placed under some blocks and shooting at the blocks will have the same effect. So does shooting at the side of a block occupied with platform(s).

This is rather weird behavior as sand blocks should become projectiles when the block that support them disappear and turn back into blocks when they have a solid block beneath them to land on.
Presumably there should be a added case where "if the sand block cannot be created in this location" then a "sand block entity will be spawned"?

It was not said that this issue about the "sand projectile disappear" will be fixed, however it is said that the issue with "falling blocks disappearing" will be (and is) fixed.
Should it be fixed? I think so. Let's write this post up and get it on the forums.
