Should the status update char limit be increased to 280?

The title is self-explanatory: update the 140 char limit for status updates to 280 chars, like twitter has done.
 
This would require that Xenforo (the primary software supporting this forum) allow that, which it does not. There would be quite a bit of work involved for them to do this.

This is not something we can configure ourselves by just changing a number on an options page.
