Terraria for iMac?

We recently purchased an iMac, and we can't seem to figure out how to get Terraria downloaded for this platform. We don't want to risk corrupting the new computer, but we LOVE this game! My son and I are not super technical (he's more advanced than I am), so we're hoping we don't have to dive to deep into configurations, drivers, etc. We are also not sure we can trust the videos we see on you tube. Does anyone have any experience with this?

We currently run Terraria on xbox 360 and on mobile.

If Terraria is not available for iMac, are there plans to release it in the future?

The official release to mac is said to be coming in 1.3. And 1.3 will be coming out AROUND June. So you can wait for the update or use other methods that I don't know a lot on.
