PC Tree farm

So, I heard that with Weapon Racks you can make mad $$$ if you sell them in mass amounts.
And for that, one needs a lot of trees to keep the cash rollin'.
This is where the title comes in and my question:
How does one make a Tree farm with absolutely no grass growing in it, preventing saplings from growing?

1 dart trap + timer should take care of the grass. Haven't tried it in a long while but I doubt it's changed.

Or..
Place any kind of wall behind the grassy-dirt layer of blocks.
Tall grass plants and flowers won't grow, but trees still can. But, do not place walls on the line above the grass layer or nothing will grow.

If you really want to cheese it for money, do this:

1. Get lucky coin (or for bonus points get the greedy ring from combining all the pirate stuff)
2. Get slime staff
3. Find a place that you can trap enemies safely and stand still
4. Unequip all + damage items
5. Summon a slime and go take a nap
6. Wake up to 50-100 plat

... it would be easier to just make a new large world, run across the surface and cut down all the trees... then delete the world and start over...
