Game Mechanics Version Switching

So, this is probably a popular request, and I get that it would make the game files big, so I propose the game versions or a collection of them could be put out as DLC you could buy/download to switch between on Steam. This feature would be nice, as it would mean we could visit older versions of the game, and it also means we don't have to find shady downloads on shady corners of the internet.

Other games have the ability to transition between version through properties. Terraria is one that doesn't I don't know why, but I can definitely relate to wanting to legally play older versions of the game.
