Can't you just use a few spelunker potions in the jungle?
Its not that hard to do but it can get repetitive

I'm not sure you ever mentioned you being lazy.
Just make an attempt to find some with spelunker
Also I don't think they start growing till a single mechanical boss has been defeated.
You should try to see what happens when you progress without life fruits
