You could just reset your system date to late October. And use a farm and collect goodie bags. You'll get all the cool vanity stuff that way.
Personally it's my favorite pet in the game.

Have you made sure you have costumed mobs? Slimes wear bunny masks an bunnies wear slimes.
If you can't find them then your game isn't set to the date. On mobile i have to disable wifi then go and reset the date before launching the game.

I tend to get a mass of them then open em. But yes it is quite a pain to get
