They're not fun to get lost in, definitely, but they're a great source of free rails and cobwebs, and you can score a few free minecarts too. There's also ores everywhere. It really helps to mark your path with blocks you couldn't find in caves, so that you don't get lost as easily. As for the cave spider spawners, you can turn them into an EXP farm. It's actually worth deconstructing a mineshaft.

When I first played Minecraft as a kid ngl even on peaceful mode they gave me big chillls, now I only get slightly spooked at the sight of cave spiders. Maybe its a fear that dies down overtime, we naturally fear the unknown and once we get used to things I guess its natural to fear it less.

Yeah, I'm aware that they can be really useful (finding one that consistently tunnels through layers 15 and below is diamond central). I just have this strong, irrational fear of them. It's actually probably one of my strongest irrational fears, which is pretty pathetic, I know.
