Lemme guess: a giant dinosaur named Derposaurus came and stepped on a scorpion and got stung, which caused him to run around the city screaming and hopping in a way that just so happened to be an ancient ritual dance, causing a meteor to come crashing down on your house which released aliens that came and killed the city.

I was ready to go all out against some people. Got the best of my armory, drunk to the gills with enough firepower to kill off a small country, but when I arrived, they were.....
