I cannot reproduce this. I would guess you have a faulty copy of the Boreal Wood asset.

Try verifying game file integrity via Steam?

You aren't using any texture packs, are you?
 
It seems to be a file integrity issue since after a computer restart the sprites were normal and I couldn't reproduce it again. No texture packs were used so my guess would be a file integrity issue, though I'm not too sure.
