Fishing was pretty cool before 1.3. After that, Crimson, Corruption, Hallow, and Ice each got some cool fish weapons.
It was pretty awesome, but it doesn't feel like is is completed. For one thing, there are no summoner fish weapon, which is kinda strange. Second, Corruption has a prehardmode item, but crimson does not. Third, not every biome has a fish weapon, so without further ado, here are my suggestions.

This fish is caught in the purity and can be caught PreHM.
Ranged Damage: 12
Velocity: 7
Knockback: Based on arrow.
Critical Chance: 8%
Use Time: 20
Sell Price: 50 Silver
"Turns wooden arrows into slimy arrows."
Slimy arrows inflict a new buff called Slimed. Slimed makes it so enemies faster, but makes them take more damage from all fire type debuffs. But if hit by a fire type arrow, the Slimed debuff is canceled, making it so you can't spam all fire type debuffs.

When used, it creates a gust of sand filled wind that moves forward that attacks infinitely for about 5 seconds or until another is created.

Sharks ram quickly into enemies. Sharks goes up to 3 and grows in size after 3 sharks are created.

Functions as a Hardmode Spiky Ball. When thrown, it looks just like a round ball, but after 1-2 seconds it spikes up, expanding twice its size going from 1x1 blocks to 2x2 blocks. Has a 50% Chance to cause poison for 8-12 seconds and 5% to cause 4-6 seconds of venom.

So this is it for right now. Hardmode will come soon for Snow, Purity, and Jungle. I am open to ideas.
If you want to make some sprites then go ahead.

Well, I like the idea, but in an actually reverse sense.
I played ranged until the release of 1.3 not long ago.
In 1.1 there was the Mega Shark going on my nerves, a fish being a gun, I hated it and I used the Clockwork Assault Rifle instead.
In 1.2 there was the Piranha gun going on my nerves, you fight for hours - or sit in your farm for hours - to open a chest and find another damn fishgun in it. This time, it was not only a fish, but it was extremely weak as well.
Then 1.3 came and even more fish guns.

Why do I love the idea of more fish weapons then? I want to see the other classes know our pain! I want fish weapons for mages, I want fish weapons for melee.

So as long as ranged damage fish weapons are not added, I'm supporting.
 
I've added an improved Fish on the Stick sprite, as well as the piranha summon. I also added ideas for Hardmode desert and ocean weapons.
