Multiplayer > Host and play > select character > select world > server settings: steam MP enabled, Allowed users friends, allow friends of friends off, > Enter password/leaving password blank > start > game instantly freezes on the password page and crashes.

Tried an uninstall/reinstall as well as a file integrity check, nothing.

Single player works fine.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I am running the game through steam on Mojave 10.14.6. Thanks.

One of our Mac testers reproduced this, so we've logged the issue for investigation. Thanks for the report!

@laurgeoisie Did you get any sort of error message? Our coders are looking into this issue right now, but we have no leads as the crash is happening with no indication of why.
Experiencing same issue on my MacOS Catalina 10.15.6 and found no error message following the crash. The crash, for me at-least, seems a little unusual because, rather than a black screen and then quit, the game exits and I the Mac mouse pending swirl for about 20 seconds before steam recognizes the game has stopped.

@Leinfors Other than the problem report that pops up after Terraria quits unexpectedly, no. Similar to OP, it works in singleplayer, but whenever I get to the point where you enter a server password and click accept it just freezes and gives me that spinning rainbow circle and closes after a minute of being unresponsive.

Same exact problem here:

Macbook Pro 2016
Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65)

Specifically:

Multiplayer > Host and play > select character > select world > server settings: steam MP enabled, Allowed users friends, allow friends of friends off, > Enter password/leaving password blank > start

After this Terraria disappears, but the dock icon stays for another 15 - 20 seconds.

After this,Terraria simply shuts down (the dock icon disappears).

I have tried creating a new map, same result.

I have tried with multiple characters, same result.

Single player works perfectly fine, no issues. Only Steam Multiplayer creates this crash.

new info: I am able to join my friend's worlds in multiplayer just fine. It's just hosting that causes it to crash

Just a side note:

I am playing vanilla Terraria, purchased and installed/run via Steam.

No texture packs installed, no mods installed, no alterations done to any vanilla Terraria 1.4.1 files.

Tried again this morning, here is my crashlog:

We think we have a fix for this issue pending, but we need to test it internally when our Mac users are available. If the fix works, it'll be in the next hotfix update :)

Any Idea when the hotfix might drop? I'm a bit late to the party and don't know the usual timeline for such a fix.

I have the same problem, I tried uninstall reinstall Terraria, it didn't work. I tried Uninstalling steam and then reinstalling, it didn't work, I literally went to mac library, and deleted all existence and backup of steam and reinstalled steam, and it didn't work. I hope we can get this issue fixed. I wanna play Terraria with my friends.:sigh:

Validating the files is unlikely to fix this, and I'm not aware of any workaround. This is likely only going to be fixed when the hotfix comes out.

Hopefully soon!

I also have been having an issue with joining public servers. I will join a server, and it will work perfectly well for a fair amount of time, but then it will spontaneously crash with no warning.
