PC How to get a free server to play with friends?

When I play with my friends, we always play with steam integration, but it lags like hell.
So researched, and apparently steam integration is causing the lag, because on actual servers I never lag.
So how can I host a world as a server just to play terraria with friends? For free.

Honestly, there are all the same really. Just look at a few different ones. And only the host needs to portforward. You just give them the IP, Port and Password if one is set.

i keep trying to use the "startserver" thing in the terraria server and says there is a problem

It SHOULDN'T. But it CAN. It just depends.

You'll have to purchase a server or continue to use steam intergration.

There is, you can use Hamachi software

It's a free software that helps connect networks without the need for portforwarding. I personally wouldn't recommend it, it can cause a lot of security issues.

No. Only the one with server does.

Type "port forwarding terraria" or "terraria dedicated server" in google. For that you will not need Hamachi and you don't need to buy anything.
