Game Mechanics Item profile - Interchangeable stats between PVP and PVE

So I am not sure if something like this has been suggested, or if it could be done.

But I'd like to propose sometime during Terraria's development that if items could have interchangeable stats for every item in-game. And would switch around when either PVP and PVE.

When in PVE, they would retain their original stats for a normal game experience. And when in a PVP session, they change to stats more balanced for Player Vs. Player session.

The moment any player switches to either pvp or pve, the items they have equipped or have on them would interchange to their respective stats for the session. It would also make it easy for players who'd like a PVP only server to carefully balance stats towards a combat style they would like other players to use more easily.

When ever we get new content in or out, we have to balance it for both PVE and PVP use. It would be nice if they could have two interchangeable stat profiles for when this comes around, so some weapons, armor, accessories, etc could remain very useful in PVE. Instead of being balanced out to the point that it takes a bit more effort to use them or so much (I.E. During Moon events), especially if there will ever be any items meant to be outrageously powerful and would be unfair in PVP, this would be a handy mechanism for knocking down even a Powerful or OP item for PVP use.

One of several problems to be addressed is any of the following (Work in Progress):
  • (WIP)
But this is beneficial in other ways:
  • Weapons, accessories, armor and other gear that will be used in PVP would be nerfed. So there isn't anything to worry about exploitation.
  • Some gear can remain as they originally were without having to tweak them so they could be used for PVP and PVE at the same time, since their statistics will change when switching between Co-op and PVP mode.
  • (WIP)
(This entire post is a WIP as the conversation expands, thus this suggestion is subject to change.)

I kind of understand what you're trying to suggest here, but not to a high enough degree that I could judge and review. A little more explanation, please?

Ok, but if a weapon is significantly stronger in PvP mode, what's to stop players from just enabling PvP and cheesing a boss?

Good point...

I propose there would have to be a way if Bosses became active, PVP would immediately be ended till a boss, event, etc were taken care of. Course that could be an option for server config.

Seems awesome ;).
This would be nice to have a well balanced PvP fight with other player's out there, although since people cannot grantee you may have a balanced fight, it could be a bit buggy, such as when a player has a flame thrower, and nothing else. Than they would easily die to a hardmode player, and the PVE system will think that player should be with this hardmode player.

True. I kinda wish the people who are PVPing are only able to hurt other folks who have PVP enabled.

Yeah ikr lol.
I just hate those type of people who tend to just enable PvP, and then after that go on your team all day lol.

I can agree. I'm personally the kind of guy who will PVP only if he wants to. I never liked to be forced to PVP against his will xD
 
This would mean making another change that anyone who enables PVP can only harm anyone else who has PVP enabled, keeping this from going out of control.

All boss(no Allboss joke, please) has a higher health pool than the player, which is why some weapons have insane DPS already. This means nearly every weapon needs a nerf for PvP balance, not the other way around.

Both of the points you've bulleted makes no sense. The first because for PvP balance, weapons need to be nerfed rather than buffed in every case. The second because the game already disallows people to kill anyone not in PvP mode, except via lava or boss trolling.
