Joja cola disappearing

I went to the dryad to purify the joja cola so I could get the junimo pet, clicked on her with the joja cola in hand, and I replied to a message so I tabbed out, and when I tabbed back in, the joja cola was gone and I couldn't purify anymore so now I have to go fishing again for one. Not that big of a deal, but definitely a major inconvenience

I'm unable to reproduce this. The animation sequence pauses for me when I alt-tab out, and even if it proceeded, it might have dropped the item on the ground anyway. Was it possible the item was laying on the ground?

I was looking, but no, the stardrop wasn't on the ground. Also i was holding out the joja cola and the animation wasn't happening yet, it just gave me the dialogue to continue the purification
