I don't see why it has to clog your inventory. You can just have it stick to the player. Other enemies already do that.

Can be similar to the maggot as well from the graveyard id suggest it can be a passive mob for the crimson that inflicts bleeding but no damage

100 hp can heal itself from attacking the player around 10 hp can be drained per individual leech
Passive mob can be found in the crimson spawns from dead crimson mobs also can be found elsewhere within the underground caverns of the crimson
Inflicts bleeding on contact with the player
Can be caught with a bug net
Drops
Leech banner upon 50 killed
