Minimap broken. Main map blacked out. Why?

I recently came across this issue where I started my game up and for some reason my entire map was blacked out. It was a large world that had been almost entirely explored and on top of that the minimap won't work at and is just empty and useless. It wasn't tracking any new exploration for a while until I desynced everything. My other character which has barely been used seems to be unaffected on the main map but the minimap is similarly worthless. I've checked online and seen that apparently this has been an issue for YEARS and the devs still haven't done anything even though they claim to have been working on it since as far back as 5 or 6 years ago. Is there a fix or am i stuck with a broken minimap and hours wasted on exploring because the devs don't care.
