Mobile NPC Housing Ideas

So I just restarted my world before the update.. nothing built yet. So I updated, and currently I just get constant crashing, so in the meantime I have been trying to think of cool housing ideas for my NPCs when I can finally play the game. I so far have come up blank, I used to just put them all in a huge flying box.. but I didn't really like that, I sort of want each of them to have their own little house. Doesn't really matter if they are spaced out or not, I'm just open to housing ideas/themes at this point. Pictures would help too as I'm not the most experienced Terraria builder. So the question is.. how do you house all of your NPCs?

Make them all floating, with staircases connecting them all.... Kinda like a bean stalk, or a series of connecting treehouses.

A giant tree containing houses. From scratch, not a giant tree. My friend has made one and it looks SICK.

BIG WOODEN BOXES! Yup... I have no skill at building because I'm not very creative... I cri evrtim :'(

Yep, thats essentially what I end up building :(.

I built boxs. But I added different wallapers and wepon frames and such to make it look a little cool

Not a bad idea actually.

You could try making an Inn? Like there is one floor that is A medieval bar for the pirate and then some smaller houses for the other NPC's. Just try making houses that suit that NPC;)

Could not sleep last night so I am working on this. Not sure how it is going to end up but I am envisioning treasure chamber along with trophy room(s) and crafting stations underwater. Screenshot_2015-12-14-20-09-04.png Screenshot_2015-12-14-20-09-17.png

Ah that looks pretty sick!

Thanks very much. As I sit here at work mindlessly answering emails I have had some other ideas to add onto this. Likely 3 sails, crows nest and cannons on the deck along with extending the bottom underwater some more for additional living space for the NPCs. In all likelihood I will remove the platforms and replace then with solid wood, doors and stairs in between decks and add some glass walls for ports here and there.

Minor little update during my lunch break along with watching an episode of Jessica Jones hehe. Never done sails before so I imagine some tweaking will occur.

Very cool, I do like your idea.

Still very much a WIP but thought I show what I did a little last night.

underground to above ground tree base. trophies leading up the underground part. rainbow bricks to funnel ground enemies into traps(and they look cool) spear traps to protect entrance. made with living wood and leaves to make it more tree like. and everybody fits. my tiki npc is in the jungle biome too^_^

You stuff them in the Living Wood Tree? Not a bad idea.
[DOUBLEPOST=1451094845,1451094807][/DOUBLEPOST]I build a simple dirt house, two doors, floating for natural defenses

When I get bored... :a giant castle made out of obsidian floating on the sea and have:teleporting room, planting room, NPC houses.
But that just is no the right point, I'll show you guys a NPC house idea I've, I set it in jungle because.... It was originally designed for farming but... Yeah.
