There are the Icy Merman and the Zombie Merman, and in the Bestiary it says that they are Merman who were lost and adapted to the environment or resurrected (ice and blood moon), something that is commonly said for Slimes, Zombies or Wandering Eyes
The Werewolf have their own enemy from which the effect of the moon item comes.
Why then there is no normal Mermans?
Wouldn't it be interesting if a Merman rarely appears in the Ocean biome in Hardmode?, like Zombies walking and getting out of the water.
The Ocean is perhaps the only biome that has no new enemies when you get into Hardmode
