Xbox Series S/X Shimmer lake not working/no aether biome

Playing on xbox x. I have 2 different worlds that were created after 1.4.4 came out. In one of the worlds, when I got to the shimmer lake that was generated at start of world, there is no aether biome/starry background, and when I drop items in, like lemons or heart crystals - nothing happens. Both are Mastermode, normal (not journey). I've tried different characters in this world & same result. I've also brought the character from the world not working into the other new world, and it works there.

When I was mining down looking for the lake, some water came down on the shimmer, created a row of the atherium block along the top. I mined that block up, and thinking that maybe it wasnt working because the shimmer level was to low, I used a bottomless shimmer bucket to bring the level back up but nothing works.

Anyone else have any issues or a fix for this?

Thanks
Dan

Hey, I posted this last week in the console help section, but doesn't look like it's happened to anyone else, hoping I can get a few more people in here to see it, maybe offer a reason why (other than a bug)....

Hi @Rrrrrrredbelly I combined your two threads to keep things organized. :)

Can you show a screenshot of the map where the Aether is? Is it relatively high in the world? There was a bug (fixed in 1.4.4.4 patch) that, in some rare-ish instances, had Shimmer generating a tad too high in the world that it didn’t create the Aether effects.

What items are you dropping in that don’t work?

Hopefully this helps, elevation is at 1144'. Items that I've tossed in have been lemons, life crystals, among other things, but those are items that I've tried in another post-LOL created world that do work. I really don't want to create another world, but is that my only option if this was generated too high?

I get the aether biome not working due to this bug, but how is it the height that it was created at affects items thrown into it? When the update dropped, a bunch of youtube vids were created showing the effects of items dropped into it, and all of those were done with man made shimmer pools on the surface.

Does the patch fix worlds already created? I don't know which version I'm on, but its build 960 of 1.4.4 for xbox x. FWIW, the other world I've been playing in, the post labor of love world, the aether is at 852' elevation.

Appreciate the help,

Thanks
Dan

edit - both are large worlds

Interesting. That looks to be in a spot that should be fine and not affected by being too high up.

No Aether biome effects (starry background) - this one is perplexing as, based on where it generated, it looks like it should work. Are you carrying or placing any item that changes background (pillar monoliths, blood moon monolith, Aether monolith, Don't Starve radio, etc)? Additionally, can you try out different lighting settings - I forget what console has available, but things like Trippy, Color, White, Retro.

Drops not transforming - you mentioned in your first post dropping in lemons and heart crystals and I completely glossed over that and then asked you in a subsequent post what things you were dropping, sorry for that oversight. You were so kind to just answer again without pointing out that you had already mentioned them. Even if the Aether biome was too high up, I would still expect the items to transform. Because, like you mentioned, things will Shimmer transform even if the liquid is on the surface assuming the liquid is deep enough for the entire item to be submerged.

Remind me if you are in singleplayer or multiplayer? There is a bug on 1.4.4 (fixed in 1.4.4.1) where drops are doing nothing in shimmer if you're in a multiplayer world. Things are fine in single player. Also, I wouldn't think that it would matter, but you mentioned that water fell into the shimmer at first, creating the Aetherium blocks that you mined up. I don't have a console anymore, but I'll try to test in mobile (which has a very similar codebase to console) if it does the same thing. One last thing... since you have a bottomless shimmer bucket, if you place a small pond of it on the surface, can you transform items there?

Thanks for all this. It is a multiplayer world, I didn't think about that part. I haven't tried adding more shimmer with the bucket, it's a world that I play with my son and his cousin. I thought about adding more shimmer, but I wasn't sure if I could remove it if it didn't work. If the aether biome isn't working though we'll probably create a new world. Doesn't look like console has the patch yet (unless I'm mis-reading it), we'll start a single player world and see how that works. In the end we're not very far into it.

Thanks for the help. I'll play around with it and post here in the next few days if I can create a man-man shimmer lake that transforms items.

Okay, sounds good Dan. Yeah, in a single player world the items should transform properly.
