There are a handful of items that are finite or aren't obtainable at all within a single world. This includes some furniture, decorations, weapons, and others. This affects Journey Mode players who are trying to research everything, builders who want to use those items in their builds, and completionists who are trying to obtain banners or fill out the bestiary. It also creates an issue for servers with server side characters, players on there won't be able to obtain certain items if the world doesn't generate with them. Normally you can, of course, create a new world for a chance of finding those items there, but why must you create a new world that you will only use to find those items then never return to? Because of this, I have created a list of all of the related issues I could think of, as well as possible solutions for them. I really hope that these solutions are considered, I personally felt hindered by these issues during Journey Mode and trying to fill out the bestiary.
Furniture and Decorations
Corruption and Crimson
Pre-Hardmode Enemies during Hardmode
Furniture and Decorations
- Dungeon furniture should be crafted with dungeon bricks. Currently, you can only craft dungeon chests, sinks, and toilets. The rest of the furniture you get from world generation, leaving you with a finite amount or none at all for some furniture pieces. This fix would also allow use of furniture from other dungeon types because of the chlorophyte extractinator.
- Gothic dungeon furniture crafted with bone and cobweb since it matches necro armor a bit and both are from the dungeon.
- Dungeon lanterns crafted with lantern components and different materials that correspond with each of their names and appearances. Chain Lantern with chain, glass and a torch. Brass Lantern with chain, copper brick (like brass shelf) and a torch. Alchemy Lantern with chain, moonglow, fireblossom, and bottled water. Etc.
- Dungeon faction flags dropped from enemies that belong to the respective faction. Marching Bones Banner from Blue Armored Bones, Diabolic Sigil from Diabolist, Rusted Company Standard from Rusty Armored Bones, etc.
- Catacombs crafted with bones and stone slabs, hanging skeletons and wall skeletons crafted with bones and chain. Or they are obtained from dungeon crates.
- Obsidian furniture has the same issue as dungeon furniture. The rest of it should be crafted with obsidian and hellstone, with the light sources using demon torches.
- Underworld banners obtained from obsidian crates or dropped from different underworld enemies. Lava Erupts from Bone Serpent, Hellbound from Demon, Obsidian Watcher from Fire Imp, etc.
- Underworld banners obtained from obsidian crates or dropped from different underworld enemies. Lava Erupts from Bone Serpent, Hellbound from Demon, Obsidian Watcher from Fire Imp, etc.
- Sky island banners from sky crates, crafted at sky mill, or dropped from sky enemies. Sun Banner from Harpies, World Banner from Wyverns, Gravity Banner from both?
- Pyramid banners from oasis crates, crafted with ancient cloth, or dropped from enemies from the underground desert. Ankh Banner from Ghoul, Snake Banner from Lamia, and Omega Banner from Basilisk.
- Pyramid banners from oasis crates, crafted with ancient cloth, or dropped from enemies from the underground desert. Ankh Banner from Ghoul, Snake Banner from Lamia, and Omega Banner from Basilisk.
- Paintings from underground cabins, underground desert cabins, floating islands, the underworld, and dungeon should be obtainable from crates or sold by the painter. From crates, they would be from their respective biomes: wooden/iron/golden crates, oasis crates, sky crates (already from crates), obsidian crates, and dungeon crates respectively. Alternatively, the painter can sell the paintings while he is in those biomes, like he currently does with the graveyard. The rarity of some paintings can be done by making the painter only sell them during certain moon phases, events, or after certain progression points. The Prehistory Preserved and Ancient Tablet "paintings" should be from crates, they don't make sense to be sold by the painter.
Corruption and Crimson
- Purple and red solution should both be obtainable from the Steampunker. She should sell solution of the other world evil while in a graveyard, just as the Dryad does with seeds.
- The Angler should detect if there is both corruption and crimson within the world and give fishing quests from both. Currently, he will only give quests for the starting world evil, making the quest fish from the other unobtainable in that world.
- Scourge of the Corruptor and Vampire Knives should both be obtainable. The dungeon should generate both biome chests, the key from the other world evil can be obtained due to the Dryad selling the seeds. Biome chest weapons could also be renewable for multiplayer purposes, if there are a few players who are the same class they would each be able to get their biome chest weapon. Maybe the weapons can be renewed inside the chests by doing some kind of ritual inside the dungeon or by placing certain items inside of the chest. Biome chests can be shimmered from biome keys as well, making it so any player could obtain the weapon even if the original chest is gone.
- Corrupt and Crimson biome mimics should both be able to be spawned with a Key of Night. Adding a single corrupt or crimson block in the chest with the Key of Night could specify which you want to spawn. This would make it much easier to obtain loot and banners from the biome mimic of the other world evil. Currently, the only method is to make an artificial underground evil and wait for them to spawn, which takes a very long time, especially with banners and bestiary entries.
Pre-Hardmode Enemies during Hardmode
- This issue has already been fixed by making pre-hardmode enemies still spawn, although a lot less, during hardmode. It is possible to get their banners and bestiary entries now, but it still takes a very long time due to their low spawn rates. This could be fixed by adding a new candle (or other placed item) that suppresses the spirits of light and dark within the area, making enemy spawning revert to pre-hardmode while you are within range. The candle should have a later hardmode recipe to prevent players from making early hardmode too easy, maybe using ectoplasm so it would at least be post-plantera?
I had this exact same issue and made a similar post which addresses some of the items not mentioned here: Game Mechanics - Renewable Unobtainable Items and Game Mechanics - Non-world evil Solution

I didn't even think about some of those, Hellforge and Gray Zapinator never even crossed my mind! For some reason I thought the Pharaoh's set was obtainable from oasis crates, making the Flying Carpet renewable by shimmer, but I guess I was thinking that because of mods. Cloud in a Bottle I forgot to mention, I had a similar crafting idea as you and an alternate idea of "evaporating" the Tsunami in a Bottle so the water would turn to cloud. Thinking on things I missed, I realized Hermes Boots isn't renewable as well which could be an issue in multiplayer, if a player wants them for collection or vanity they won't be able to get any. There may be other things that were missed as well, I might take a better look and update my post. Thank you for pointing those out!I had this exact same issue and made a similar post which addresses some of the items not mentioned here: Game Mechanics - Renewable Unobtainable Items and Game Mechanics - Non-world evil Solution

Another thing I will add to this is that the bestiary entries for the halloween and christmas enemies (especially the skeleton variants) take ages to get in a hardmode world (and without setting the clock/playing during halloween and christmas, they can only be obtained in a hardmode world)

You dont need hermes boots because it is functionally identical to the renewable sailfish bootsI didn't even think about some of those, Hellforge and Gray Zapinator never even crossed my mind! Also, hermes boots are technically renewable! If you shimmer spectre boots, you always get hermes boots back, regardless of the boots used in the crafting. However, cloud in a bottle, shoe spikes, and band of regeneration still are not renewable.

I thought of this as well, I was going to address this in another post of general changes. I was going to suggest that reaching later waves or getting higher score during the final wave of Pumpkin Moon/Frost Moon would give extra days of Halloween/Christmas, currently you only get a single day of either by reaching wave 15. In combination with my idea of a candle that reverts enemy spawns during hardmode to pre-hardmode spawns, you would be able to get the bestiary entries faster and have more time to do so! It is still post-plantera, but at least it would be much easier to complete the entries in general during that stage of the game.Another thing I will add to this is that the bestiary entries for the halloween and christmas enemies (especially the skeleton variants) take ages to get in a hardmode world (and without setting the clock/playing during halloween and christmas, they can only be obtained in a hardmode world)
It's still a distinct item that can be researched and used for vanity, sailfish boots don't look the same and don't count as the same item for researching. You dont need hermes boots because it is functionally identical to the renewable sailfish boots
I did not know that, I guess that solves that issue! Also, hermes boots are technically renewable! If you shimmer spectre boots, you always get hermes boots back, regardless of the boots used in the crafting. However, cloud in a bottle, shoe spikes, and band of regeneration still are not renewable.
