PC Skeletron v 1.3.1.1 is brutal with 600+ dmg. Is this new?

So,

I've reached a point where I took out the Eye, the Eater, and the Bee. Easy-Peazy.

Now I'm on to fighting Skeletron. For the 10th time or so.

I wait till night time. Ride on over to the Old Man and hit 'curse.' NBD.

Hit 'b' to pop some buffs, hop on my cart and start kiting this thing.

I got 49 defense after popping buffs (NICE), I'm hitting for no less than 50 dmg between Molten Fury and Night's Bane (NICE).

1 hand down. 2 hands down. Getting so close, I can almost smell the gold keys.

...

Then Skeletron head butts me for 600+ dmg. Peace, I'm out.

Any advice? 600 dmg seems a bit steep....

Sounds like his instakill mode kicking in. Happens if you fail to kill him before dawn.
 
Damn, I didn't know about that. I'll have to summon him sooner. Thanks!!

... update ...

I almost got him this time.

Made some platforms above the dungeon. Set up some heart lanterns.

This 60 sec cd on health potions is killin me though. Had him at 1k health with 10 seconds left on cd. Then he did his spin attack right into me.

I noticed his spin attack wouldn't stop when i kited him, though. I'd get all the way back to my town and that's when he would insta-kill.

Even if he didn't insta-kill by then, his spin attack would freeze me in one spot and just wreck me. Couldn't jump and dash or nothin'
 
You probably were taking too long to finish him and daytime came and he automatically goes into his spin mode beaming towards you to instakill you.
