I think it's supposed to simulate that the sword fell from the sky and went through the Earth.

Oh boy do I have a few screenshots I want to share.
This one is me making a sick jump with a mine cart. It just barely passes over the floating island.
It also lands me literally on the front step of the Dungeon.
Unfortunately I can't kill the cultists by ramming into them with a cart.
Later, I was trying out the Stardust armor with full summoner accessories, and when I removed it one by one....
This happened. The tail was stuck, and the Dragon was just a head.

That would be from the Stardust Monolith to my right, the blue thing above the Clothier.
Normally it would also dye the whole screen blue, but I was set to an old lighting mode so I could have the old liquid visuals for unspecified purposes.

Hmm, every time i turned my monoliths i never saw the moon, might just be me though

You're got to right-click on them once they're placed to activate them. Otherwise they just sit there.

Not sure what's scary in this pic, but I'm beginning to hate these little ice minibiomes. If you're at the top and jump just a little too high, you fall through the entire thing and die of fall damage...
