The Linker is an accessory that can be bought from the Skeleton Merchant for 10 Gold. Tooltip:
Causes shortswords to fire beams
Of course, it would be pretty useless if the beams only went straight left and right, right? I was going to suggest that they can stab in other directions, but that's already a suggestion by one SzGamer227.

Now, let's get into specifics!
The beam will fire as far as the Shortsword does damage. If fired far enough it would go off the screen, it stops there.
And here is the Phaser!
(Again, sprite needed)
The Phaser is a rare drop from Mimics.
Makes shortswords fire beams for mana which go through walls
It causes Shortsword beams to travel through blocks. So it's not completely useless if you don't have a Linker, it also causes sword beams to fire at the cost of 10 mana from shortswords.
And of course, these can be combined (at a Tinkers Workshop) to create the Linked Phaser!
