Mobile Unable to purchase on Google Pixel 6a?

KazukiVT

Hi there.

I'm currently trying to purchase the game on my Pixel 6a, but the Play Store is saying the app won't work on my device. I'm running the latest version of Android 14. The play store shows the following message.

My device is unlocked and rooted, but I don't believe that is the issue as it was showing this before then as well.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you so much!

I'm not on ChromeOS though... I'm on an Android phone.
Google Pixel phones can run on Android OS as well as Chrome OS. But if you are on an Andoid OS, which you clearly stated in the op (apologies), then I'm at a loss.
I hope someone is about to help you or you get it figured out!

I have no idea where you are getting that Pixel phones can run ChromeOS, but that's not the scope of this post.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

From their literal website, is where I'm getting that information.
And I understand it isn't the scope of this post, like I said here;
which you clearly stated in the op (apologies),
If your OS was Chrome, then it would absolutely be the scope of this post, as Chrome OS doesn't support Terraria.
I missed the part where you clearly stated you were running on Android 14, and apologized for it.

Hi there @KazukiVT this is the official word from 505 Games (the publisher of Terraria on mobile): My Android device says it’s incompatible, but I played last update?

As developers who want as many people as possible to play Terraria, we will never intentionally make devices incompatible by choice.

Occasionally there will be a necessity for us to do upgrades to stay in line with the requirements given to us by Google/Amazon/Apple stores, this can mean that some older devices will become incompatible.

If your device was previously compatible, but now all of a sudden isn’t, please double check your device against the requirements here: https://support.505games.com/hc/en-...irements-to-run-Terraria-on-my-mobile-device-

If it should be compatible, please ensure that your device has not been rooted, or changed outside of the manufacturer’s suggestions. This can cause stores to detect your device/account as untrustworthy and prevent you from downloading legitimately owned products.

If you are still unable to get the latest version, then please post on the Terraria Community Forums for assistance. (Terraria Community Forums)

Having a rooted device or changing it outside of the manufacturer’s suggestion can create an issue, and there’s not much that Terraria can do, whatever the Google Playstore says takes precedence.

Hey! Thanks for posting this! As I said in the original post, this issue has persisted since before I was rooted and the likes. Is it maybe some sort of incompatibility with Android 14?

EDIT: Tested with SafetyNet passing and unrooted, still showing the same issue.

What was the reason you rooted your phone in the first place?

FWIW - I just got a Pixel 8, unlocked but not rooted, running Android 14, and had no problem installing and running Terraria.

Are you having any issues downloading/installing any other Play Store apps? I'm just wondering if being rooted is contributing to the issue.
To the best of my knowledge, it's Google that determines what devices are compatible, not Re-Logic/DR Studios, and we really have no input on that.
I would think that a 6a should be supported, but I have no idea why you are having this issue.

Maybe Pixel phones can run ChromeOS, but to the best of my knowledge, they come stock with Android, and always have.
ChromeOS is for Chromebooks primarily, and I don't think it has the phone support needed for a Pixel device to be used as a phone.

Also, while Re-Logic/DR Studios don't provide support for ChromeOS/Chromebooks specifically, the Play Store says Terraria will run on ChromeOS and will let people buy/download/install it. I think only certain configurations of Chromebook can actually run it, though.

Hi @KazukiVT, I’m sorry I don’t have any solutions for you. From what I understand, whenever situations similar to this were pursued (many many devices, many many different players, many many hours) it came back to Google blocking things without giving reasons. Other than obvious stuff like rooted devices (even rooted devices that are masking the root) and regional locks.

I'd love to check! Do you have any examples of apps I can check? Another game I play frequently, Muse Dash, lets me download it without issue. I just checked Netflix and Hulu, both give the same error.

That was my thought exactly. I've been running Pixel phones since the OG Pixel 1, and I have never seen a Pixel phone running ChromeOS, nor any mention of it on any website.

I appreciate the help! I have a strange feeling it comes back to my device not passing some sort of checks, such as the aforementioned SafetyNet (Though I did get it to pass with some tinkering, and Play still wasn't happy...)

I don't really have an example, because I'm perplexed as to why it's not working for you.

I should amend my earlier post: I didn't exactly download/install the game or most other apps I had to my Pixel, they got transferred (via Bluetooth) during the device setup. I had already purchased Terraria from the Play Store some time ago, and the store page tells me it is compatible with all my devices.

Since your issue seems to be happening during purchase, you could try initiating a purchase of another app/game, perhaps Minecraft? You don't have to complete the purchase, just see if gives you a similar error message about not working. That could rule in/out that it's a problem with being rooted. (And now I see you have the same problem with Netflix/Hulu, so that makes me think even more that it's the rooting that causing this.)

If you have access to another Android device that's not rooted, then you could try logging in to the same Google account and purchasing it there, then see if you can download/install it.

There's also the Amazon version, which should work if you have/make an account and install their store app. It might not be as picky about your device as Google seems to be.

Hope this helps, and good luck!

Sadly the issue is happening long before purchase. It shows that message as soon as I tap "terraria" in the search bar. As for other devices, my only other one is a Switch running Android 11 Switchroot...

I have a feeling it's tied to rooting somehow, but I'm confused as to why the issue would persist even when not rooted, as well as why it was happening before being rooted.

Maybe it's some weird cookie glitch?
On my computer, some weird glitch that I think has to do with cookies makes it so that I can't go on youtube unless I've recently cleared my cookies, or it's on an incognito window.

I thought it was maybe the same thing, but I went ahead and cleared cache on both GMS and Play store, as well as attempting to buy from the browser.
