I'd go with the Sleepy Octopod/Sky Dragon's Fury mainly because they offer you an experience you don't get with most melee weapons these days.

Oh! In that case, the Lighning Aura Staff. There's not a lot of lightning weapons to go around in the game.

Oo, I should go for that one. They should make it inflict a debuff where it shocks enemies or something, since it's lightning and all :d

Aw yeah! Shock and awe! Anyways, I also like the Ballista (just as I did in the original Dungeon Defenders) because it seems effective from others using it and all.

Well, I have the hydra and I can afford all the tier 3 sentries, i'm wondering which is better for my playthrough.

If I were you, I'd go for the sentries since you can summon them multiple times and all.

DD2 gear applies for all sentries, lol. Also I'm not counting when you're in Old One's Army Event.

lightning aura staff because you can eventually place them from your crystal to the portals and not even ogres will get through. betsy will have to be taken care of though
