i have noticed that the zapinator does occasionally more tan a thousand damage (i got a crit of 2770 damage one time). also it doesn't use mana if you have the meteor set equiped. my guess is that the set bonus from the meteor set somehow apply to the zapinator.

Both of these (the high damage and the Space set bonus) are intended. Zapinator is an odd duck indeed. ;)
