I don't even use war ax's swords, or hamers. But for those who do it's great idea. Adamant it is only a couple damage point more than Nights Edge.
The chlorophyte Warhammer is actually okI would honestly support. Yeah, I do love swords, but I feel like other HM ore melee weapons except spears are useless.
Like you stated here, damage and speeds for axes are way too low.
Also the 1.3 patch introduced buffs to HM swords, increasing damage and adding autoswings which made them shine even more.
Give them ( axes/chainsaws ) a bit more damage along with that crit and it can be ok.
Warhammers seem to be a good idea,especially for your lovely Helena, let's keep her happy!,as running with that pwnhammer isn't fun, not to mention it's total weakness and the Chlorophyte one doesn't seem to be powerful either.
Yep, I need to rethink this a bit with 1.3's buff all ze swords stuff. Even the Chloro hammer has lost quite a bit of it's punch with all the swords in it's tier getting buffed.While I will wholeheartedly say that Waraxes absolutely need a buff, slightly increasing their critical strike chance is hardly going to get anything done. DPS wise, Swords have a lead on Waraxes by a margin of 60-80% better. Increasing their critical strike chance to 10% only increases the effectiveness of Waraxes by 6%. Waraxes would still need a substantial base damage increase if they're ever going to compete.
Hardmode swords got a substantial +15% damage buff in 1.3. At the very least, I think Waraxes deserve a +30% damage buff to help them catch up, and then a crit boost to help close the gap that much more and give them a more unique feel (as you've suggested).

Now, who hear uses hardmode ore war axes, or warhammers? (which don't exist cough cough)
It's pretty obvious that when it comes to this niche in progression, swords get all the love. Waraxes are both slower, have less damage, and slightly higher knockback. Now, why bother then?
What I am purposing is for this tier to be a bit more balanced (aka having the axes of this tier do something)

Waraxes
Waraxes are severely underpowered at this tier. The only thing you can really do with them is chop down trees.
But Milt, that's what axes do!
Well then, why bother making them "War" axes in the first place.
What I am purposing is that Waraxes get a crit boost.
The standard crit chance is 4%. Let's give Waraxes a nice 10% crit chance to compensate for their lack luster stats. (also applies to chainsaws)
Why crit chance you say?
You're getting hit with a flipping axe, that's why.
Swords
These stay the same
hurdy dur dur
Good damage, the fastest speeds, and the lowest knockback (sorta)
Warhammers
Well erm, these don't actually exist yet... But I really want them to....knowing me and all
Sport the highest damage, superior knockback, and the slowest speed
Good for keeping those high damage mobs off ya

Gee I wonder why that other thread exists? Could it be because chlorophyte has a warhammer while the original hardmode ores don't? One must wonder.Chlorophyte has a warhammer...
