Corruption or Crimson

Hi @PandaPro, there was already a discussion thread for this topic, so I merged your thread into it

corruption is original evil biome

I personally prefer Crimson. I like the blood theme of it (I am not edgy), ichor, Undertaker, Blood Butcherer, Crimson Armor, Life Drain, Flesh Knuckles, VAMPIRE KNIVES, less annoying terrain and some other stuff I forgot.

Corruption has some things I like more though, like the Chain Guillotines, Band of Starpower or Cursed flames (I think ichor is better but I am a big fan of DoT debuffs so) for example.

Also, Underground Crimson is my favorite OST in the game.

My take on the corruption vs. crimson debate is that they're fairly well balanced overall, especially since once you get into hardmode and can buy seeds from your opposite evil from the dryad in a graveyard. This means the only functional differences are in pre-hardmode (when you don't have access to both yet), which biome chest you have, and (imo the most important one) which biome mimic you can summon with keys of night. For class-restricted runs, it usually comes down to which biome mimic drops I prefer.
  • Melee prefers crimson for baghnakhs and flesh knuckles, plus vampire knives are gamebreakingly good (scourge is also great but not as insane as the knives)
  • Ranged prefers corruption for easier access to putrid scent (to allow for sniper scope + recon scope), since dart pistol and rifle are both excellent (and imo better than stormbow)
  • Mage can do either one, since both life drain and clinger staff are fantastic (band of starpower, and thus magic cuffs also isn't corruption exclusive)
  • Summoner doesn't get much out of either one tbh, so it can go either way (maybe crimson for flesh knuckles for a tankier setup)
If not playing class restricted, I think crimson gets the edge due to easy stacking of flesh knuckles tinkers (to become absurdly hard to kill), plus access to vampire knives. Clinger staff does make corruption quite tempting though (it's insane utility for invasions, especially OOA). I also tend to prefer worm scarf to brain of confusion, so getting that earlier on is nice.

I mostly just click random evil though.

I do Random Evil (Based)

I prefer Corruption in almost every way. Scourge of the Corrupter is underrated and carried me all the way to moon lord, better than either Solar weapon. The music has always been a bop. I like worm bosses and think it is created fantastically compared to an invincible and easily glitched Brain (I literally have only killed BoC a few times because one creeper despawns 90% of the time, making BoC unkillable) I also like suffering with the chasms more than the back and forth before the drop of the Crimson.

You play corruption because it's fun
I play corruption because it's harder
We are not the same

Have you listened to the Underground Crimson? It is my favorite OST, and it is an absolute banger.
I have, but I was a little kid when I first heard it so all I feel from it is fear and disgust.

Fun fact: Scourge of the Corruptor has a 1% chance to spawn 15 tiny eaters

This will be a mostly subjective view on things, but there will be some parts a lot of people will agree on. I will try to cover EVERYTHING each biome offers and comparing them. I will give each biome 1 point if I consider it superior to the other in that regard. Starting off with...

The Terrain and Foes.
This category is ranking the terrain's difficulty to navigate, and the foe's power.
Pre Hardmode.
Corruption: The long chasms are a death sentence to anyone if they choose incorrectly which chasm to go down. The enemies, while easy to knock back, even with a Shortsword, can easily overwhelm the player if gone on too long, and Devourers can easily take a new person down. There are only 2 enemies in Pre Hardmode.
Crimson: The terrain is fairly easy to go over, unless you get screwed over by an extremely tall cave entrance. The enemies are more resistant to knockback and are generally stronger, but there is more variety.
I give Corruption the point for easier enemies, but i will give the Crimson two points for terrain and enemy variety.
Corruption: 1
Crimson: 2

Hardmode.
Hardmode is where the evil biomes really kick in. New enemies, and more. Starting off, the Corruption has it better with Demon Altars, as they are all right there waiting to be pwned. In the Crimson, it is far harder to get the precious hardmode ores, since you have to deal with the new super strong enemies while digging holes, defenseless. Enemy situation is the same as Pre Hardmode, the Biome Mimics are the same.
2 points for Corruption for easier enemies and Altar accessability, 1 point for Crimson for variety.
Corruption: 3
Crimson: 3

The Loot and Drops.
This is a big thing with them, so lets get started.
Pre Hardmode.
Starting off with Shadow Orbs and Crimson Hearts.
Musket does way better than the Undertaker, point there. Vilethorn is a bit more useful than Crimson Rod, since it goes through tiles. Point there. And then there's the accessories. Panic Necklace gives an amazing boost to speed and is a great overall accessory for all classes. Then, there is the Band of Starpower. This thing. It SUCKS. It only gives 20 mana. Point to Crimson. The melee weapons are meant for the biome's bosses, but I find the Rotted Fork way better than the Ball O Hurt. Shadow Orb is way better than Crimson Heart because it isn't disgusting and floats.
Corruption: 6
Crimson: 5

Next up is the other loot. The biomes have the same loot with the exception of Eaters of Souls, which drop the super useful Ancient Shadow Armor. Point to Corruption.
Corruption: 7
Crimson: 5

Hardmode.

Starting off, I will cover the debuffs in it's own section, so wait a bit.
In Hardmode, the only thing notable aboveground is the fishing loot, the Toxikarp and Bladetongue. Toxikarp wins easily.
Next up: Biome Mimic.
Dart Rifle does way better than the Pistol, Chain Guillotines are actually usable. This is where it gets close: the Life Drain and Clinger Staff. I find that, while the staff is great against OOA and other events, it is ever so slightly worse than Life Drain for mages. Flesh Knuckles are pretty good, but make 1 less tinker than Putrid Scent. So, both biomes get a point there.
Expert Mode drop: Brain of Confusion's effects are much more useful, point there.
Next up: Biome Keys. Vampire Knives and SoTC. This is going to be a hot take, but I prefer the Scourge over the Knives. Way better DPS at a much safer distance.
Corruption: 11
Crimson: 8

The Bosses.
I find the Brain and Eater to be equal in difficulty, so no point there. But, the Eater is more annoying, so point to Crimson. In FTW and GFB, they both become absurdly annoying, but the Brain is more annoying, so point to Corruption.
Corruption: 12
Crimson: 9

The Debuffs.
They are both fairly good, but what is better? Starting off, Corruption gets a point for 1 more enemy dropping Cursed Flames. However, the spell tomes are a different story. Golden Shower is better. Of course, time to go over the debuffs themselves, and sadly Crimson gets it. On to the darts, where i find the Cursed darts to deal much better damage than the wide spread of Ichor ones can do.
Corruption: 14
Crimson: 10

And that should be it. Let me know if I missed anything, and seeyah!

Next up: Biome Keys. Vampire Knives and SoTC. This is going to be a hot take, but I prefer the Scourge over the Knives. Way better DPS at a much safer distance.
here it is

generally agreed, though i will say i prefer the VK because it's just that good
i like SoTC because it's fun to use, but at that point there are probably better options available (homing is always poggers though)

here it is
“I will try to be subjective.”

Dude Vampire Knives are so good ML specifically has a debuff to prevent them.

They’re also a lot faster to jump down when fall damage becomes a non-issue, but all of the fake entrances suck so it’s balanced.
Hardmode.
Hardmode is where the evil biomes really kick in. New enemies, and more. Starting off, the Corruption has it better with Demon Altars, as they are all right there waiting to be pwned. Easier enemies is subjective imo. I like not being chased by giant death worms and corruptors across the map. I'll let this one slide, though.
The Loot and Drops.
This is a big thing with them, so lets get started.
Pre Hardmode.
Starting off with Shadow Orbs and Crimson Hearts.
Musket does way better than the Undertaker, point there.
Undertaker got buffed, though. Musket has 71dps with Musket Balls and the Undertaker has 78dps with Musket Balls. It also scales better with ammo due to being faster.
Vilethorn is a bit more useful than Crimson Rod, since it goes through tiles.
It’s also a primary while the Rod is a secondary. Vilethorn is also slow to extend.

Hardmode.
Starting off, I will cover the debuffs in it's own section, so wait a bit.
In Hardmode, the only thing notable aboveground is the fishing loot, the Toxikarp and Bladetongue. Toxikarp wins easily.
Although this suffers from you lack of elaboration, I agree that the weapon that is half true-melee isn’t as good.
Next up: Biome Mimic.
Dart Rifle does way better than the Pistol,
Again, I’d like elaboration. Dart Rifle has est. 102dps w/ Crystal Darts and Dart Pistol has est. 115dps. Fact check next time.
Chain Guillotines are actually usable.
You underestimate the pure DPS of the equivalent. When facetanking, you deal 240-280dps with the Corrupt weapon and 540-580dps with the Crimson weapon.
Flesh Knuckles are pretty good, but make 1 less tinker than Putrid Scent. So, both biomes get a point there.
Well one doesn't lose half it's effects while tinkering, so point to Flesh Knuckles. 8 defense is usually also better than 5% crit and damage.
Expert Mode drop: Brain of Confusion's effects are much more useful, point there.
They're roughly equal, BoC leaning to be more offensive with the Cerebal Mindtrick and Worm Scarf being more consistent with a flat 17% DR. No points.
The Bosses.
I find the Brain and Eater to be equal in difficulty, so no point there. But, the Eater is more annoying, so point to Crimson. In FTW and GFB, they both become absurdly annoying, but the Brain is more annoying, so point to Corruption.
Corruption: 12
Crimson: 9
How is eater more annoying? I give one point to Crimson for giving you a wide open space to fight rather than a hallway.
The Debuffs.
They are both fairly good, but what is better? Starting off, Corruption gets a point for 1 more enemy dropping Cursed Flames.
Ah yes, saving one minute grinding is just as useful as armour. No point for this, enemy variety exists already.
On to the darts, where i find the Cursed darts to deal much better damage than the wide spread of Ichor ones can do.
Hmm... I rather someone else do this part because I haven't actually used these weapons, but looking at the wiki tells me Ichor has more damage and looks more consistent than the droplets.

Edit: Shadow Armour > Crimson Armour, so point to Corruption. However, it only gets Corruption from 7 to 8.

Using yours as a base, my reworked score is...
Corruption: 8
Crimson: 15

What if you CANT facetank? It becomes useless.
