Not technically a bug, but definitely feels like an oversight. I was farming cave critters for my Journey Mode collection and noticed that gem squirrels cannot be replaced by golden squirrels, for whatever reason. Gem bunnies can be replaced by golden bunnies, though. This is a really weird inconsistency that ultimately isn't a huge deal but is still a bit weird, nonetheless.
You could argue that maybe I just got unlucky, but I sincerely doubt that, since I was able to find enough diamond and amber bunnies/squirrels to meet the research requirements and found at least seven or eight golden bunnies. I also had a luck potion and the permanent luck upgrade active.
