I whipped up some concept pixel art and had the idea that they could be obtained through the things we had the most trouble with on the playthrough we did live and we're going to do a second series of master mode at some point so it would be the perfect joke
Homunculus Gaming - Burning Kiln
Summons a faithful familiar
Crafted at a hellforge in the underworld with 10 clay, 10 sand, 10 ash, 5 vines, and a lesser healing potion
(Design based off of the D&D Homunculus)
Lagoon - Moss Engulfed Pickaxe
Summons a creature from the depths
Dropped with a 1/200 chance from Moss Hornets
(Design based off of a swamp monster)
Flasholotl (me) - Algae Covered Key
Summons a blue axolotl
Dropped with a 1/200 chance from Blue, Hell, and Rusty Armored Bones in the post-Plantera dungeon
(Design based off of me being a blue axolotl)
(2/13/24 4:23 PM EST update) I'm gonna put my inspirations/explanations here, mostly for my pet summon but I have some interesting facts I guess.
The reason why my pet summon item is a key is a reference to the Terraria playthrough that sparked this whole thread with my friends Lagoon and Homunculus Gaming, where I farmed to try and get a Morning Star from the post-Plantera dungeon and spent a half hour only to get 8 Keybrands before my beloved Morning Star, so I made it a key that drops from the same enemies with the same drop chance
I asked everyone yesterday before I posted the thread and I asked "what did you have the most trouble with on our playthrough so far" (because we haven't beat the game yet and can't until next week) and their responses were:
Lagoon: "I hated mining out the Plantera arena," the moss-covered pickaxe is dropped by Moss Hornets, I think you can see the inspiration.
Homunculus Gaming: "I hated going to Hell for the first time," and what is the first thing you do in Hell but not grab a Hellforge for your base
their designs would all be based off of each person's channel branding but Lagoon's has nothing to do with his name (for now, he might change it) and Homunculus hasn't even made his actual gaming channel yet and we're trying to figure out what a Homunculus is so I made Homunculus a D&D Homunculus and Lagoon a swamp monster blob (if these pets get added definitely change up the swamp blob to an actual swamp monster, I didn't have a reference, also my axolotl is wearing a gray hoodie, I just suck at pixel art lmao)
(2/14/24 3:01 PM EST update) I remembered that there's clay in the game so I changed the Burning Kiln's crafting recipe from
10 mud, 10 ash, 10 sand, 1 lesser healing potion
to
10 clay, 10 ash, 10 sand, 5 vines, 1 lesser healing potion
in order to better match the D&D monster manual's description of how to make a Homunculus
