No, just no. You'd be able to get a lot of gold very easily simply by catching some bunnies or squirrels (which are very common) and doing a bit of mining. But what if your world has platinum instead of gold?
golden critters are specifically golden critters because they are a rare variant, they are meant to be rare, and "hard" to obtain, they give a good amount of money and make the golden food thing, they shouldnt be able to be crafted

The "golden food thing" is actually the best food item in the entire game, because it provides Exquisitely Stuffed for 48 whole minutes. It's rare for a very obvious reason. Also, golden critters have 50% bait power, which is another reason why this would be way too unbalanced.
1) we don’t need to completely break the game’s economy by being able to turn a little bit of gold and a critter into 10 gold coins.
2) gold critters can be used to make the best food item in the game, if you could just make them then it would be way too easy to consistently have the exquisitely stuffed buff.

I agree. Lots of gold/platinum can be obtained easily, especially at lower cavern layers. And knowing how much money they go for, crafting them would be way too op. In order for them to be crafted, they would have to be severely nerfed.
