Weapons & Equip My "Terraspark Boots Buff" mod showcased! Do you think some of these effects would fit in the vanilla game?

So, I made a mod called "Terraspark Boots Buff" that I uploaded to the tModLoader Steam Workshop. Here's what the mod does, as well as a few videos of some of these effects in-game:

38 mph speed and skating effect on my YouTube:

Water Affinity, Lava Shield and Obsidian Healing buffs on my YouTube:

Thank you for checking out my mod! What do you think? Should any of these effects make it into the vanilla game? Maybe even all of them?

Keep in mind that the buffs provided by Lava Charm, Water Walking Boots and Obsidian Rose are temporary, they only exist when interacting with liquids. The main buffs to the Terraspark Boots here are 38 mph speed and skating. Skating in the video shows that it grants significantly more speed than what its supposed to, it's only supposed to be 20%. Skating only works while grounded and goes away when entering flight or turning around.

The main purpose of the mod is to make all components of Terraspark Boots useful and cool. Fun comes over balance in my opinion. So while these buffs might be a bit much for one item, they still aren't game breaking and is mainly supposed to make the items much more fun to use, because fun is after all the only thing that matters when it comes to games.

Aglet and Anklet of the Wind got their movement speed buffed so they are more useful in the early game and the 38 mph speed buff makes more sense.

Lava Charm having full lava immunity is actually not that strong when you consider the fact that Obsidian Skin Potions exist and are dirt cheap. Lava isn't much of a threat past Hellstone mining anyway.

Obsidian Skull granting immunity to the "On Fire!" debuff is meant to make it a bit more useful and since Obsidian Skin has "On Fire!" debuff immunity, I don't see why this accessory can't have it too. Accessories should, after all be more powerful than free potion buffs I think.

Huge thanks to my friends Bame and Qwerty for originally coding some of these and then letting me use their code!

I really like this suggestion! It would give Terraspark boots more of a use, and make the accessory better than their potion counterparts.

I also improved the tooltips of some of the items a bit! Like Water Walking Boots state that they "Provides the ability to walk on water, honey & shimmer" instead of just stating "Provides the ability to walk on water & honey".

Obsidian Water Walking Boots and upgrades now state that they "Provides the ability to walk on liquids" instead of "Provides the ability to walk on water, honey & lava". This makes the tooltips more correct and shorter since they can walk on any liquid. In vanilla none of the tooltips for either Water Walking Boots or Obsidian Water Walking Boots state that they grant the ability to walk on shimmer.

Tsparks are good enough. The only change here that I like is immunity to "On Fire!."

Tsparks are good enough.
I would say not quite. Let me explain:

Spectre Boots are a fantastic accessory in Pre-Hardmode, falls off in Hardmode. Lightning Boots are barely any better than Spectre Boots with its 4 extra mph speed. Ice Skates are a bad accessory. Lava Charm is a bad accessory. Water Walking Boots are a bad accessory. Frog Leg is a great accessory in both Pre-Hardmode and Hardmode. Base running boots are a great accessory in Pre-Hardmode. Amphibian Boots are a fantastic accessory both in Pre-Hardmode and Hardmode.

Combining bad accessories together makes a bad accessory, while combining good accessories makes great or even fantastic accessories.

Lava Charm provides only 7 seconds of immunity to lava, which Obsidian Skin Potion grants immunity to for a full 6 minutes. Obsidian Skin Potion is really easy to craft, only requiring Fireblossom, Waterleaf and Obsidian. And it can be found as Pot, Chest and Crate loot. You also don't interact with lava much in Terraria. You interact with it when venturing down into the caverns in search of loot in Pre-Hardmode, then when Hellstone mining and then finally when farming enemies or mining Hardmode Ores. For those situations you interact with it you just drink Obsidian Skin Potions. Lava Shield is a fun buff that increases defense very temporarily, it's not going to be activated often, but when it gets activated by having Honey in your arena or exploring the world it's going to be a nice defensive boost.

Water Walking Boots can walk only on water, honey & shimmer. Liquid walking isn't particularly useful in Terraria. It's a nice novelty, but not needed at any point in the game as you can just jump or fly over liquids or drink a Flipper Potion to quickly get out. There's also the Neptune's Shell later in the game. There is also the Water Walking Potion in case you would ever feel like having some liquid walking for say, WoF or whatever. Water Walking Potion can also walk on all liquids unlike the Water Walking Boots. Water Affinity is a fun buff that increases your running speed very temporarily, it's not going to be activated often, but when it gets activated by having Honey in your arena or exploring the world it's going to be a nice speed boost.

Ice Skates are just useless. It has two effects that only work on Ice Blocks. Increased acceleration and movement speed on Ice Blocks and preventing Thin Ice from breaking when falling on it. Sometimes it's actually more beneficial to fall through Thin Ice since there might be water underneath or just simply fun to fall through. You also still suffer from fall damage on Thin Ice if it's not broken when you fall on it. The increased movement speed on Ice Blocks does not affect the speed of running boots. Skating, which is shown in the video above is a really fun and useful buff to the Ice Skates that works everywhere, as long as your grounded.

Aglet and Anklet of the Wind movement speed is so low that it barely affects your top speed even when you don't have running boots. It becomes a bit better with the +5% increase. While also making sense for the 38 mph speed in Lightning Boots and above.

Lightning Boots 34 mph speed is barely noticeable. 38 mph speed is more noticeable both when exploring and during fights.

If you were to just buff the speed of Lightning Boots and above then the problem with Ice Skates, Lava Charm and Water Walking Boots would still be the same; They would be bad accessories that lead to upgrades that just have much higher reforge costs and that don't offer much besides the higher reforge costs and vanity. No one likes accessories that are practically useless.

I also want the Terraspark Boots to be better in Hardmode, with these buffs they would be a lot better there too while making all the components useful in the crafting tree.

It also makes the accessories in the crafting tree much more fun to use. Right now they are super boring due to what I stated above.

It would not break the game in any way to make these changes either, sure they are a bit overtuned but I would much, much, much rather have these changes than what we have now. It would lead to the game becoming a ton of more fun.

It’s also a pre-boss accessory. Making it good in HM makes it overpowered in pre-HM.

Technically being available Pre-Boss does not mean that the majority of players will actually grind for the Terraspark Boots Pre-Boss. Underworld is seen as Post-Skeletron by the devs, which is where Obsidian Rose is obtained through grinding Fire Imps. You also need to defeat Goblin Army to get Tinkerer. Most players obtain Terraspark nearing the end of Pre-Hardmode, if at all because most of the time you have to grind. You need to get really lucky to obtain them early. Lava Charm is just a 5% chance in Cavern lava layer.

saying its pre boss is like saying Hellstone was pre boss. yeah, you could reaver shark but is anyone legitimately going to do that INTENTIONALLY without beating a boss?

Demon Scythe is pre boss too, yet it is fantastic against WoF. Should it be nerfed?

Terrasaprk boots are busted, but upgrading them to this would cemet them as the Greatest Of All Time, and would make them the ultimate movement accessory. This could be balanced by making the components rarer, anyway.

Now that I think about it though, I feel like the liquid side effects don't have to do with movement.

Here's my suggestions:
Water Affinity is fine.
Lava - +100% acceleration and deceleration.
Obsidian - Increases jump speed by 1.3

Obsidian Rose is only pre boss if you consider hellstone pre boss.

not technically, you physically cant get hellstone pre boss when you can get the rose pre boss.

You kill imps for those, bomb some obsidian, and grab the Lava Charm in a chest.

That’s significantly more time consuming than just killing 8 creepers with less than a dozen grenades and just mining all the hellstone you could ever want with no bosses down is.

It's not very feasible to get Terraspark Boots Pre-Boss without intentionally avoiding killing bosses. You literally don't need all that good gear to take on some of the Pre-Hardmode bosses, unless you're playing on Legendary. Lava Charm is just a 5% chance in lava layer chests or through crates. Obsidian Rose is just a 5% chance to get by Fire Imps. You also need to find Water Walking Boots, which are a 10% chance through Water Chests (which are usually only a few in the Oceans and rarely in random liquid pools on the map) or crates.

You can’t craft Obsidian Rose with Hellstone if that’s what you’re implying.

Still, it’s a pre-HM accessory that shouldn’t really be set in power to hardmode.

I’m not. I’m saying if we’re going to normalize obsidian rose, magma stone, and demon scythe being pre boss then we need to normalize hellstone being pre boss too.

Fair enough.

Amphibian Boots are powerful both in Pre-Hardmode and in Hardmode, throughout most of the game in-fact. It is possible for an accessory to be good in both Pre-Hardmode and Hardmode without being incredibly powerful.

Terraspark Boots generally require much more effort to obtain. I think with these buffs I gave to Terraspark, they will be quite a bit better than Amphibian while still having Amphibian be an option to players with their generally easier obtainability and powerful 30 mph speed and 32% jump speed increases. You should never underestimate jump speed, it's a pretty powerful stat. Terraspark will have 38 mph speed, rocket boot flight/not even a second extra wing flight time, skating, temporary and situational buffs when interacting with liquids. So they are generally better than Amphibian, but requires much more effort to obtain.

Some people will still probably stick to Golf Cart, which sports 41 mph speed, high jump height, ram enemies, does not take an accessory slot and has high acceleration. Then in Hardmode there's the Basilisk which has the same stats as Golf Cart but with knockback immunity and a double jump. Again, does not require an accessory slot.

It’s because they stack with wings. Without wings they’re only okay.

TSpark are good for exploring, but by the time you get them that niche isn’t all too useful anymore. Buffing that niche would be simultaneously too good and worthless while doing anything else would make it the perfect accessory that puts anything else to shame.

I've always felt like the terraspark boots are fine without being buffed, since they're not incredible but you do get exactly what you expect so it's not like they're underwhelming either. Most of its components are also not uncommon to find normally during a playthrough, so I consider it just free minor buffs if I happen to find flippers and ice skates (since I always use one of my pre-hardmode slots for boots anyway). That said, I still think they could be buffed just fine, it's just most suggestions I've seen to buff them are along the lines of 'make them better amphibian boots' which I feel like misses the point.
Giving the terraspark boots more general survivability buffs that aren't just 'moves way faster' is something I don't think I've ever considered before though, and I really like it.
All the changes suggested here look good, I especially like the dunerider effect and liquid buffs, it feels very on-brand for the terraspark boots to incentivize adding certain blocks to your arena to gain advantages.
