Weapons & Equip Remove Short Swords, Start With Broadsword

Hello old thread. Here's my valuable opinion.

Shortswords are underpowered.

They need the player to be able to aim with them, else anything that jumps or flies, basically anything that's not a slow zombie on flat ground is too much to handle. If there's a particular reason the devs don't want shortswords to be aimable in multiple directions that they manifest themselves and explain it on this thread, or if it was mentioned somewhere, which I doubt, a link would be appreciated.

They need to be slightly bigger in most cases, if you can't outrange enemies from a safe melee distance you at least need to be able to keep them at bay with knockback, or do they expect us to get the melee knockback accessories this early *facepalm*.

They need to deal a lot more damage, ideally more than spears but at shorter range (I do personally think the very first spear also needs a buff, it's hella small).

They need more knockback. Being melee, especially in expert early game, you don't want to get hit, which is usually why bigger swords with an arc are usually preferred (even though they're still bad, shortswords are much much worse).

Ending rant(s?):Early game weapons need a buff, including some bows. I won't go onto specific as I'd need to list all weapons and how much each one needs to be buffed as nobody would agree anyway. But I can suggest the devs to try the weapons on monsters that they think said tier of weapon should work on and do their own balance. An early game revamp is direly needed but there's a few hardmode weapon I also think could be reviewed.

Another thing they could do to buff the early game, which does not mean other changes won't be necessary, is to increase starting hitpoints to 200 and decrease the maximum health gained by hearts to 10. Especially since one start without defense. Well, one can rush for an easy cactus armor I guess. Since the new update I started another expert run, let's just say my enjoyment of the early game was pretty meh. You can disagree, but you're wrong (that's how I roll).

I think one of the reasons they don't change early game is because of speed runner records? To hell with them, an enjoyable game is a better priority. If you think you can handle my smugness when it comes to game balance, I'll gladly share my opinions.

Toodloo.

Yes and no.

No: like @Neko-Chan said, you start with awkward weapon only with one reason - to get a better one.

Yes: they are really underpowered annoying controls. Better give them more advantages like aiming.
