Weapons & Equip Fix melee speed scaling with spears, buff spears & add more spears

The spear subclass includes multiple different types of polearms just like how swords include maces, sticks, living creatures, frying pans, canes, etc. To be more precise, the spear class is made out of polearms not spears. Spears are a type of polearm and lances are a type of spear.
Throwing weapons like knives and throwable spears tend to switch between melee, mage and ranger depending on what's convenient. I personally don't have an issue with it since at the points you obtain throwable knives and spears for melee, you have boomerangs, flails and projectile swords with similar range, though it's indeed kinda weird how throwing weapons don't have a well-defined class.
Weapons always tend to have different damage types despite functioning almost identical. It is not an issue, since Terraria does not have deeply explained classes and just have damage types.

While Terraria does not have deeply explained classes and rules as to what determines a weapon's damage type, it tends to have some unique stuff shared by almost every weapon in that damage type. Good examples are how most of the melee weapons getting stronger in point blank range, minions always dealing more damage than a whip or Ranged weapons getting most of their power from the ammunition.

By the way, I do agree with you that there is not a need for throwable spears or knives for the melee class when you can make more boomerangs, or something similar. Daybreak, Vampire Knives and Shadowflame knife can keep their unique design as the only weapons like themselfs.

Rather than add a third pillar weapon that's a spear, why not make the Daybreak act like a spear with one click and like a javelin with the other click?
I am not gonna lie, I think Daybreak deserves to be a thrown spear than a held one. It is my second favorite weapon for that reason, I like its unique thrown spear nature.

yeah, the throwable spear functionality of the Daybreak shouldn't be removed, but maybe it could have additional attacking methods with an alt click.

i just don't like the inconsistancy of the game, i guess it's cool and all that classes can play in a similar style if you like one specific one, but the bone javelin, a ranged weapon has *identical* function to daybreak... it's just rather confusing on why they decide some of these class damage choices
also the wiki calls them spears which is my mean issue with all this
Yeah, I agree that melee speed overall needs a rework. Melee speed tends to benefit the DPS of true melee swords, but not the DPS of their projectiles due to it being separate from the weapon. So if you like true melee, maybe opt for melee speed. Same if you main weapons that have their DPS increased significantly by melee speed. I think it's only the True night's edge that benefits from melee speed? I'd have to check. Either way, I disagree with melee speed being better for summoner than it is for melee. A full damage build benefits summoner more since it would be increasing the damage of the minions, sentries and whips rather than just increasing the DPS of the whips. It's also better if you're mixing class because more damage benefits all classes and the minion you're using to assist you.
melee speed benefit isn't even that great with true melee weaps, menacing/lucky tend to beat it unless you use terrablade
You're right, but either way, I'd prefer to have the graphics of fast spears reworked just to have them look nicer. I am pretty sure the Gungnir can start flying out of your hand even when you don't have a lot of melee speed.
i will not try to say it shouldn't be fixed, i'm just saying it's not an issue that's TOO annoying to the point where it needs an immediate fix

That is very similar to what the TRAE mod did lol
yeah that was my main issue, it sounded like something from mods rather than a vanilla feeling addition, that's why i decided to not bring that up

i enjoy consistancy

Red himself said that he never made classes to be defined. There isnt rules for what damage types the weapons should have, so they can have anything for their damage type, really.
Look: Throwing knife, Shadowflame knife and magic dagger. All of these have the same function, yet different damage type.
