Slimes float through the ground?

In every world that i play in slimes seem to spawn in the solid ground and float through it until the come across a cave or the outside world. This also only seems to happen on the surface level of the world and does not happen to simes other than blue, green, and purple slimes. It does not happen when king slime spawns slimes.

They’re either hoiking or Npc smoothing is happening.

In addition to what Greybrynn advised, I've personally seen cases where Slimes somehow manage to get stuck in walls - usually sloped walls. This is a known issue. I can't say for sure if it's related to hoiking, but if it is, it probably won't be fixed.
