Terrarian
so im a console player, and a lot of people i have met online always prefer weapons like the terrablade or lower over duke fishron weapons, and i feel like duke fishron weapons are way more powerful than anything you can get from any other boss in console (not counting ocram). My character is melee / mage and i use the flairon, the Razorblade Tycoon and the tsunami all the time, switching between the beetle and spectre armor (depending on the situation). I know that some weapons are better at one thing than others, like you can get a lot of hits with the magic harp even though it doesn't do that much damage, and some weapons that take a lot of grinding are also pretty good (spectre staff), but i feel like the terrablade isn't as good as most of these (except maybe the magic harp because it does more damage, depending on the class your character has too i guess). The reason i use flairon that much is because the original hit does damage but all the little bubbles that shoot out do a lot more damage than originally stated. Just btw. Opinion?

No one should ever use Flairon in a melee kit.

back in 1.2.4 days i used both. terra blade tore through trash mobs, and flairon tore through single targets.

the most efficient way i've used the flairon was grazing my target with the flail itself so that it would be pummeled by as many bubbles as possible; this was among the highest damage melee could put out next to north pole projectile stacking. the flood of crits was highly satisfying.

I didn't use both in my playthroughs, they are extremely hard to get (THOSE REDDING MOTHRONS DROP BROKEN SWORDS THAT REVIVE THE POWERS OF UNHOLY (Night's Edge) AND HOLY (Excalibur) SWORDS!! BECAUSE AN INFLUX WAVER SWORD CAN BEAT YOU TERRA-BLADE!! while the Duke Fishron drops a completely op Flail with its face, the Golem Fists are stronger, but worse than the SOLAHR ERAHPTION (Solar Eruption)!!)

Solar Eruption beats pretty much every melee weapon that you use pre-pillars except maybe Arkhalis which is also a great close-range weapon into hardmode imo.

It's OP against Duke Fishron.
It is, but to get it you first have to beat him without it. It's hard without it but once i got Flairon i started farming for fishron wings which took me like 20 duke fishron kills, not including the kills it took me to get all items from him which was like 20 more. honestly i feel like the drop rate is a bit weird for all the items he drops. truffle worms are also really annoying to find when you're trying to farm DF.

It's a magic weapon with "melee" scribbled on in crayon.
How come? It doesn't use any mana or get it's damage raised when used with magic armor / magic buffs.

Those attributes are byproducts of programming the weapon as if it were melee damage. The Flairon's damage results from projectiles that are entirely disconnected from and unrelated to the main weapon; therefor it is a magic weapon and falsely branded. Other projectile-based melee weapons do not fall under this jurisdiction because they either cause damage from the weapon itself (see spears and knives) or deal damage through an embodiment of the weapon's spirit translated into energy (beam swords).

Wow i didn't know that. Still my most powerful weapon though xd

With that logic the Terra Blade could be called a ranged weapon. You can't just say, "It's a magic weapon with 'melee' scribbled on in crayon." Re-Logic knew what they were doing and had reasoning behind it. The Flairon could be used for the homing bubbles, OR the actual flail.

Anyone using the Flairon for the flail is wasting DPS on a mediocre weapon, which is why nobody does.

If i were to choose from a terra blade or a flairon, i'd choose terra blade any day, the sword beams are... Satisfying...

The following melee weapons have projectiles that are disconnected from the main weapon and are not sword beams;
  • Bee keeper (Summons bees only on impact of main weapon with enemy)
  • Starfury
  • Ice blade, Frostbrand (Shoot ice bolts that are definitely not a sword beam of any type)
  • Bladedtounge (Spits ichor stream only on impact of main weapon with enemy)
  • Mushroom spear
  • Hammush
  • Ghastly Glaive
  • Chlorophyte Saber
  • Chlorophyte Partisan
  • Chlorophyte Claymore
  • Flower pow (Petals can be seen on the weapon but are not the main weapon)
  • Seedler
  • Scourge of the corruptor (Bursts into a horde of mini-eaters on impact)
  • Flairon (topic)
  • Horseman's Blade (Calls homing pumpkin from offscreen only on impact of main weapon with enemy)
  • Christmas tree sword (Ornaments can be seen on the weapon but are not the main weapon)
  • North pole (The snowflakes, not the flying ice lance)
  • Star Wrath
  • Mewomere

That's a lot of weapons to write off as merely magic weapons in disguise, more than a tenth of all melee weapons in the game. Could you address these?

For completion, the following melee weapons shoot projectiles that are definitely sword beams;
  • Enchanted sword
  • Ice sickle
  • Beam sword
  • Death sickle
  • True Excalibur
  • True Knight's Edge
  • Terra Blade
  • Flying Dragon
  • Influx Waiver
  • North Pole (flying lance)
  • Terrarian (these projectiles are also homing bubbles, but they're visibly yoyo-shaped)

Yeah those are cool

I usually prefer the Flairon because I just feel so powerful when I’m using it, and it does immense damage.
