It can take a bit to get used to playing on console, especially if you are used to playing on PC with a keyboard. Just like anything the more you practice the better you’ll get. As someone who switched to primarily playing on console, I can say that it can become just as intuitive as playing on PC. The only things that have never become easy to use are Yo-yos and Magic Missile type weapons which were designed for a mouse.
Also, in my opinion the default control schemes are kinda garbage. They aren’t very intuitive and lack a lot of useful options like the Dynamic Hotbar. I would recommend going through the bindings and settings things up in a way that makes sense to you. Then as you play you can adjust things until it feels right. Just make sure you take screenshots of your control scheme because there is no way to save it.
Thanks. Will take a look at your controls setup later. The PS5 controller ran out of juice
The start was horrific, because I couldn't figure out how to build properly, so had no shelter the first night. Died 12-15 times, and the spawn location turned into a Graveyard. Not great.
Almost got a cramp from hitting R2 so much, but once I found a tickmark for repeatable attacks, that helped a lot. It's awkward to change tools quickly, tho, so much nicer on keyboard where you can hit "1" and suchlike, and I also struggle with inventory management, and what buttons to press to do different things. Just mining and building is slow because that pointer thing goes all over the place when you move, and the smart function isn't very smart. But I'm managing okay now. But also can foresee many problems when trying to tackle bosses and the invasion events. From what I recall, those were pretty difficult at times. Jumping, grappling, attacking this and that way. Will be difficult when everything feels slower with a controller. However, I'll take a look at your setup when the battery is recharged, and see if I can improve things a bit.

Impossible to double post here, but hopefully tagging
@Russ_Guss_Doodles helps. How do you manage with grapple hook and aiming?
For better or worse, I only have one thumb on the right hand, and to aim where to 'park' the grapple hook, I'd need to use the right stick and also one of the face buttons. I'm not familiar with Switch controls, but looks like kinda the same issue with your setup too? The default is "O" on PS.
Admittedly I haven't changed anything yet, because I'm dreading going through the whole thing, with probably several functions getting overwritten when I try something else. Waste so much time trying to remember what buttons do what during combat, exploration and inventory, so not much is intuitive. And keep hitting the big pad (up top) when I want to go into the inventory. Probably because it was like that in both God of Wars that I recently played. As an aside, wish we could use e.g. drag-left on that pad, but don't think that works in this game. It's only clicking. Would have in practice given us 4 more 'buttons' to use. Without the need for holding in another one, which makes things so confusing
