The Dark Future of TCF

My fellow Terrarians, my brothers and sisters amidst our digital microcosm...

Recently, whilst I was lost in deep meditation, I had a vision... A prophecy which proclaims the horrid future this great site is to face. I do not know when this shall come to pass, but I am able to share with you all that which led us to our downfall, in the hopes that our fate may be somehow subverted.

Our end is wrought forth in a series of 3 devastating events, which I hereby individually dub "The Cataclysms", and collectively, "The Dark Future". I have made it my duty to share with you all the visions I've had of this dark future ahead, and I warn that you heed my words as I explain in full...

Let us begin with haste.

First Cataclysm: The Great Flame War

The Dark Future began upon the start of The Great Flame War, wherein a great battle of vigilance & faith erupted across all of TCF, from which not one of her threads would come out unscarred. But to truly grasp at how this Catalysm came to pass, I must first speak of that which led up to it's advent, of the vehement zealots who brought forth this war in the name of vengeance, who cared none other than to eradicate their transgressors at any cost...that of the Covenant of Ace.

Whilst many on TCF care not for @Aceplante's suggestions, regardless of how one views his ideals, it can still be said that he is a good man at heart. At this however, there was one amongst the accountless who lurked in the shadows, deeply moved at the words Ace spoke. They would spend hours upon hours reading and re-reading any and all posts he would make, following Ace's every move as he went about our TCF; and as the months passed by, the lurker would slowly become infatuated, fanatical... They would come to view Ace as a holy being, for they thought no man could be as great without the inherence of divinity; and to this, the lurker would create the Covenant of Ace within the shadow of the accountless, and thus be made it's High Apostle.

Now, whilst the High Apostle bore an unchallenged devotion to Ace, they remained within the accountless, for they felt unworthy of being made equal in status to their divine idol via formulating an account. Thus, the High Apostle instead made it their duty to spread the word of Ace, so that others may join in their reverence. Over time, the Covenant of Ace would grow, indoctrinating Terrarians within the shadows, becoming more and more zealous in their faith as their membership congregated amongst one another. To this, rituals would be devised in the name of Ace, ranging ever-so in their extremity, from vehement sermons to blood sacrifices followed by wild adultery, many of which revolved around a mod wherein each of Ace's suggestions were writ upon Terraria's digital code, this being revered as their holiest of holies. However, a deep-rooted malice grew in tandem within the Covenant of Ace, a revulsion for all those who would dare disagree with Ace, the High Apostle deeming them heathens and heretics to their devoted...and it wouldn't be long till' that hatred reached it's fervid peak.

One day, within The Dark Future, Ace will post a suggestion...one which many here on TCF will adamantly critique, far worse than any other before it; and seeing their divine idol under such great aversion, the zealots of the Covenant of Ace will be thrown into a frenzy, with the High Apostle delivering a sermon wherein they tell their devoted that now is the time to arise from the shadow of the accountless, and ascend to defend Ace with all their vigor, thereby unveiling themselves to their divine idol in all their glory. Thus, the Covenant of Ace flooded TCF en masse, the suggestions of @Aceplante becoming battlegrounds within a matter of minutes, walls upon walls of impassioned text filling the screens of all. The staff are thrown into disarray at the sudden holy siege, and while Ace explicitly condemned the actions of the High Apostle alongside their adherents, not even that would be enough to squelch their anger. However, this would not be the beginning of The Great Flame War, no... While the Covenant of Ace were adamant to an extreme in their defensive, it had not yet become an offensive, as it was still confined to Ace's suggestions...

...The offensive began when @Unit One took charge.

Even though the staff would continuously ban the adherents, no matter what form of ban was placed, they would always return en masse, more devoted to their cause than ever before. To this, Unit knew something had to be done, and it had to be done through Ace; and so Unit struck a conversation with him, proposing the idea of a temporary exile from TCF, so as to dwindle out the zealots over time. However, Ace would argue against this idea, as he had no hand in bringing about the Covenant of Ace, and a punishment to him for their actions would only add fuel the fire. Unit and Ace would argue back and forth on this for hours on end, attempting to arrive at a solution; but in the end, no compromise was made. So then, @Unit One did only what they thought would bring peace to TCF...and banned @Aceplante.

This was the beginning of The Great Flame War.

Despite Unit's intentions, this action only served to ignite the flood of oil, and an all-out offensive broke out across everything on TCF. No thread was left untouched, alerts were ringing off by the second, and because @Tunnel King locked all of Ace's suggestions in an effort to curb the assault,"The Last Post Wins!" became the main battleground. During this time, while others fled and watched from afar, many more rallied behind @Russ_Guss_Doodles for his ability to challenge and undermine the Covenant of Ace in a calm manner despite the chaotic rancor of their offensive; and following the example of Russ, who devoted long hours to standing vigilantly against their malevolent zeal for the sake of TCF, many arose from the shadow of the accountless to do battle against the Covenant of Ace, and Russ was named "Hero of The Great Flame War" for leading the charge.

As the battles raged on across TCF, Russ and his allies had managed to beat back the Covenant of Ace as though they were a river flowing over a blaze, with Russ even managing to turn a handful of adherents away from the High Apostle's word and convince them to take up arms at his side, this leading to their great crusade across all of TCF becoming a series of skirmishes as the ferocity of their initial assault began to slowly die out. To this, the High Apostle and their devout zealots would start becoming desperate, as the fervor of their followers was starting to show cracks at the foundation, and thus they began delving into more drastic measures, this desperation eventually serving to deliver a great tragedy upon all of TCF, yet also be the Covenant of Ace's ultimate undoing...

At this point in time, The Great Flame War seemed to be nearing it's conclusion. Whilst the skirmishes were still commonplace, Russ and his allies still nevertheless stood valiantly against the offensive. However, despite how things may have seen, a few allies of Russ would begin reporting strange figures following them home at night, this serving to stir a great unease deep within them all...and then it happened.

One day, Russ recieved a knock at his door...and upon answering, he was stabbed a great many times across his entire body, with the police quickly being called in by the neighbors upon hearing the commotion and realizing the situation at hand. However, though the police would apprehend the assassins and Russ was rushed to the hospital with great haste, he would inevitably succumb to his wounds; and thus, Russ became the first casualty of The Great Flame War.

Many would come to mourn the loss of Russ, and amidst the interrogation of the assassins, their ties to the Covenant of Ace would become abundantly clear. At this, the police would launch a full investigation into the High Apostle and their adherents, with their zealots being arrested in droves for their collusion in Russ' murder...yet when police eventually arrived at the High Apostle's place of residence, the High Apostle was found to have committed suicide via ingesting cyanide; and upon news of the High Apostle's death, alongside the arrests of their most devout adherents, the Covenant of Ace would scatter, this ultimately being the end of The Great Flame War.

Upon the war's conclusion, a funeral would be held for @Russ_Guss_Doodles, wherein many of those who fought alongside him payed their respects. All of TCF would watch on as Russ was put to rest, honoring him as the Hero of The Great Flame War, with @Aceplante personally delivering a formal apology for the actions of those who revered him; yet even still, Ace would remain in exile for the remainder of TCF's history. With the death of Russ, The Great Flame War was brought to an end...however, this would only serve to be the beginning of the end for TCF...

Second Cataclysm: The 3-Year Siege

Following the conclusion of The Great Flame War, TCF would be thrown into a state of disarray. After having been thoroughly scarred by the flames of battle, a return to normal seemed almost alien to many. But whilst The Great Flame War shook all of TCF to it's very roots, what was soon to come would slowly rot them from the inside-out, completely transforming TCF into something completely obscene from what it once was...

...This was the beginning of The 3-Year Siege.

Whilst the personality of Terrarians on TCF were changed at large from their former joviality into something more resembling melancholy, the aftermath of users became unusually obscene, even for that of The Great Flame War. Slurs would begin plaguing the battle-scarred threads, edgelords would arise and fall in droves at the hands of TCF and her staff, anime pornography would stain the categories where once comparatively intellectual thought rolled through, and seeing the circumstances which were currently arising, @Tunnel King journeyed out into the lands beyond, to see if his worst suspicion had come to pass...and it was indeed so.

Just prior to the High Apostle's day of death, they had made a post on a truly vile site...one where the showerless congregated en masse, dripping oil from their grease-laden, unshaven bodies as they breathed out their yellow-stained mouths in anger at any and all things to do with social respect...a site, known as 4chan.

Here, Tunnel had uncovered the source of the plague on TCF: A post where the High Apostle described TCF unto the degraded scum as a place where political correctness reigned above all else, embellishing her as a haven for Social Justice Warriors so as to incite society's lowest to attack; and upon learning of the High Apostle's final incursion, Tunnel called an emergency meeting amongst the Administrators and Loki to share with them his findings and discuss their next course of action. As they spoke of the situation, Tunnel would suggest they lock down forum registrations entirely until the storm had passed, yet Loki declined to follow through with such a thing, as since the beginning of The Great Flame War, Loki was trying vehemently to keep everything under wraps from the rest of Re-Logic, so as to not draw any more community attention than what was necessary; yet despite Loki's attempts to assure the great Redigit that nothing was wrong on TCF, Redigit was no fool, and he knew full well of that which had occured, yet ultimately kept quiet on it, for Loki's sake. So instead, they decided to stand vigilantly against the degenerate abhorrence of 4chan's depraved, but in spite of their best efforts, even after an entire year had passed, the siege of edgelords had not yet ceased, and showed no sign of halt...and to this, seeing all that which had been wrought upon TCF and her people since The Great Flame War, Redigit took action.

Redigit makes an official statement, declaring that Re-Logic would no longer be affiliated with TCF, for the corruption it bears had been rooted too deeply, and was slowly twisting the community at large, rotting them out into obscenity. Thus, Redigit and Cenx made the painful decision to abandon their once treasured Terrarians on TCF, and upon news of this echoing out, many of those dedicated since the very beginning followed suit. Thus, the second year became one of mass exodus, as the rot took it's hold over all of TCF, with even the Administrators and Moderators resigning, leaving TCF to her fate...all except @Unit One, who stood valiantly against it all until the very end.

By the third and final year, all hope had seemed lost. Unit and a few of those left from the olden times were the last ones standing, darkness had completely overtaken TCF, and had twisted it into something vile... However, it was at this time when a light within the darkest hour shone forth, and a user of the upmost wholesomeness would join. They would quickly become beloved by Unit alongside those who had remained, and for their calmness in subverting the degraded scum who prowled amongst the ruins, they would even be seen alike to an incarnation of Russ; and having shown their dedication to the restoration of TCF, Unit would eventually promote them to Administrator, the first in a long, long time...but this would ultimately prove to be TCF's final undoing...

Final Cataclysm: The Great Purge

Upon a field of blades and rot, @Unit One and The Beloved now stood as the last remaining two in all of TCF.

"Why did you do this?" Unit would ask. "Why would you destroy everything that we've built?"

"Mercy..." The Beloved would speak, their voice a tone of calm and shame. "TCF had been ravaged by war, and plagued by rot. For all this time, we've let TCF suffer, for our inability to let go of the past. The time had long since come to put it all behind us. I know it must be hard for you, and I am truly sorry."

"You were my family... I loved you..." For the first time in many years, there was sorrow in Unit's voice. "How could you betray me like this?"

"I did what must be done... I take no pleasure in what I did."

To this, Unit fell silent...and in that quiet, The Beloved was stripped of their rank, and banned from TCF.

The Beloved had purged them all. Every single one of TCF's users, banned. The registration, barred behind an impassable security. All of the threads, locked...

Unit was the last to remain. As they reflected over the years of history on their beloved TCF, they pondered as to whether or not it was all worth it in the end? But seeing the early days of the forums, catalogues in digital memory of past joviality, Unit thought to themselves that it was worth it all indeed, if nothing else but for that memory.

And so, Unit goes to The Last Post Wins!, and gives their final goodbye to TCF, thus becoming it's victor in bittersweet recollection of times long since past...and then, none else remained, as @Unit One resigned.

This is The Dark Future of TCF.

I mean, it's an interesting(-ish) story I guess, but quite frankly, prophecy just isn't real, and even if it was, this just isn't how the staff would act.

Also, three next years could go differently, too. I'm not sure if we'll like that turn of events. With all the possibilities on the table, all the futures darker than you may think... maybe not. Then again, a military strike on a server TCF is stored on would be an anticlimatic end to a story and highly unlikely to boot.

AAAAAAAA Not that it happens!!!!1!!11
Not that ALL ppl write mass insults!

Holy cow, reading that was an experience. I can’t wait to lead an online army against a fanatical cult that wants to “corrupt” an action sandbox game!

Also, just to follow up on what @Unit One said, I thought the part where I died was quite funny but you probably should have DM’d me just to make sure I was okay with it.:dryadwink:

Could this be the lore of Dark Souls IV?
The Dark Future certainly has that kind of feeling to it, doesn't it?

I mean, it's an interesting(-ish) story I guess, but quite frankly, prophecy just isn't real, and even if it was, this just isn't how the staff would act.

How can you both say such things for certain? There are indeed many variables which fate may allow for, but I fear that The Great Purge might very well be set on an unavoidable course, such is the nature of our reality.

Who knows? Should the time and possibilty arise that I be granted an alternate vision of what is befall TCF and her users, I will be sure to describe the possible path in full once more...

Thanks for the fanfic but I am confused. What is TFC?
As was mentioned, TCF is the place where you write those very words upon her digital microcosm.

Be wary, my friend. The Covenant of Ace may be growing within the shadow of the accountless as we speak!

Worryingly enough, whilst I had no vision of myself within The Dark Future, for what it's worth, I'd be honored to fight at your side once the Covenant of Ace arises from the shadow of the accountless.

To the Hero of The Great Flame War!

Hi @Menerick__∞, fun story, although, personally, I do wish that you hadn’t depicted a real live member, by name, as getting stabbed.

This seems to fit the Non-Terraria Creations, Art, & Literature section best, so I’ll move it there.
I'm sorry Unit, but I speak of only what I've seen come to pass. It is a great tragedy indeed...

When you face The Beloved at the end of it all, I pray that you not despair, for TCF's memory will live on in her users, unto the generations.

This is The Dark Future of TCF.
...interesting. Very interesting.
