Blocks & Decoration - VERTICAL HALF BLOCKS -

You all know that when you click on a block with a hammer it changes shape.
One of these shapes is the HALF BLOCK.

However, only HORIZONTAL HALF BLOCKS, and only in the LOWER part.

I always wanted it to be possible to have a VERTICAL HALF BLOCK, both to the LEFT and to the RIGHT.
And also HORIZONTAL HALF BLOCK on the TOP.

This implementation would add a lot, a lot of detail and possibilities to the constructions.

This reminds me of vertical slabs...
Anyway, is the really necessary? Why would you want half walls?

Half walls would allow for more details in the constructions.
I mainly thought it would look cool to use half-block glass for a window with more depth in a one-block thick wall.

But of course there would be many other things that could be done.
I'm sure expert builders would do incredible things with this implementation.

I would bet my dirty sock on that! But only one! Both of them would be too much!

bro really can't bet both of his dirty socks
but I didn't think of windows, that's ingenious

How would this be implemented though? Adding it to the normal hammer rotation would make it even longer.

I know it can be frustrating when we're hammering blocks and miss the state we want and have to do it all over again.
However, there is a solution! Modifying how hammers work!

I suggested once that the hammers work like Grand Design, right clicking would open a menu to choose the state we want.
However, I was told that the Terraria developers didn't want to add another item like Grand Design, as it is difficult to program.

But now I have a better idea that is very simple to implement!

The hammers could have 2 MODES. HALF BLOCKS and RAMPS.
We could change mode with Right Click.
In this way, each hammer mode would have 4 block states: HALF BLOCKS at the bottom, top, left and right; and RAMPS on the 4 diagonals.

It would be more faster, comfortable and easier to use!
It's such a cool idea that I need to make a thread just for it!

Partial support. I’d love this but the amount of new sprites that’d have to be made for EVERY block would be extremely tedious. There’s well over 4000 by now iirc so not sure how feasible it would be
If I am correct, slopes and slabs are done automatically, so it wouldn't require more spriting.

I like this idea. I can't claim to know much about coding the game or how this might screw with things, but from my limited perspective, I see no problems with it. Obviously having to cycle through 9 block states if you miss the one you want isn't ideal, but other people in this thread are already suggesting ways to get around this. I like Depressed Owl's idea of left-clicking making slopes and right-clicking making half-blocks.

I'm nearly start using Hoiks! in my world, this is a topic of interest for the Hoik-Science

Apparently the save data array for worlds is getting extremely cramped with every new block state they add. I’m not sure adding new slope states is feasible for this reason. It’s also why they won’t add any new wire colors or paints, btw.
