The fact that you can't explore much in expert worlds early game.

The fact that some of friends waste hours upon hours grinding for items that are mediocre at best and we end up progressing far too slowly. Also "Lava Waders needs to be combined with frostspark boots" and "Melee is the best class" because neither of those things are true.

Expert eye of cthulhu is unironically one of the hardest bosses in the game (at least for me)

Agreed, the fast dashes it does at low life are ridiculous, I mean come on it's the first boss. Though the Expert Skeletron is by far the hardest.

The sound bug in splitscreen in coop. Player one has no sound. Still. And no word on if this will ever even be fixed. Makes the game pretty much unplayable. Going on three months now. Sigh.

Bats. I downloaded NPC Control for my modded playthroughs for the sole purpose of removing any and all bats from the game. Alas, that doesn't help in my vanilla playthroughs.

While I could say "early Expert" in general being a huge turn-off from the rest of the game I actually enjoy, I think I want to specifically mention sandstorms in early Expert before you have any real firepower or movement options.
Having a random chance of having effectively half the map cut off from you is horrific and I wish that sandstorms couldn't start until at least post-Eye.
I know you can just platform bridge over the deserts, but that's just more earlygame Expert tedium on the pile of earlygame Expert tedium.
