why is my character not working?

my character is not wearing armour, uses an original unaltered sprite and his name is in red. I cant seem to use him at all. WAT IS HAPPENING ): please explain

Your character got corrupted. You can't really do anything about it, but avoid doing whatever you did.
 
I have a backup copy of my terraria file. if I where to copy my character profile folder and use it to replace the corrupted one would that work? if so should I copy the folder or just the files.

I happen to have a copy of my terraria folder. if I where to copy over my old player folder would it work?

Yeah, this happened to my friend. I don't think you can do that much, even if you have a backup. It might, but I wouldn't recommend messing with this.
