When New Horizons flew by Pluto in 2015, it revealed many things about the planet that we previously didn't know about. It showed us what the exact surface of Pluto looked like for the first time in high resolution, gave us a lot more info about its atmosphere, discovered large chasms on Charon, and more.

Space Fact of the Day #101:
The Mars Global Surveyor was a NASA probe that first launched on November 7th, 1996 from Cape Canaveral and first reached the vicinity of Mars on September 11th, 1997. Its primary goal was to study the entire Martian surface, atmosphere, and interior, and first began its primary mapping mission on April 1st, 1999 from a low-altitude, nearly polar orbit.

CADRE (Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration) is a NASA project planning to land three rovers on the south pole of the Moon. The rovers will land on the Moon via Intuitive Machines' IM-3 mission, which is currently scheduled for launch for early 2025.

Space Fact of the Day #98:
On October 20th, 2018, a probe known as BepiColombo launched into space via an Ariane 5 rocket. The mission is a joint mission between the European Space Agency and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency. BepiColombo's main goal is to perform a comprehensive study of the planet Mercury, and will arrive at Mercury on December 5th, 2025 following several gravity assists of the inner planets.

Space Fact of the Day #97:
NASA has recently assigned three private teams led by different companies Intuitive Machine (which just landed the first American lunar lander on the Moon since 1972), Lunar Outpost, and Venturi Astrolab, to develop their versions of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle (LTV), the rover that the Artemis astronauts will use, which will be brought to the Moon in March 2030 with Artemis 5.

Space Fact of the Day #96:
On February 21st, Varda Space's W-1 capsule that it previously launched into space on June 12th, 2023 with a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully returned to Earth, with the capsule containing the HIV/AIDS medicine ritonavir. The W-1 mission was mainly to test how feasible it would be to make therapeutics in space and tested Varda Space's hardware for the first time.

Space Fact of the Day #95:
Naiad is the third-largest moon of Neptune. It is the innermost known moon of Neptune, and the closest known moon to the center of any gas giant. Its orbital period is less than a day on Neptune (which is about 16 hours) which will cause it to eventually decay to the point where it will crash into Neptune. It was the last moon to be discovered by the Voyager 2 mission in September 1989.
