Terrarian
1 Clockwork Assault Rifle
8 Hallowed Bar
15 Cogs
25 Souls of Fright
Damage: 90
Knockback: Extremely Weak
Rarity: Pink
Best Modifier: Unreal
Base critical strike chance: 15%
Resembles a steampunk hunting rifle. It trades both the speed and ammo conversion of its precursor (the Clockwork Assault Rifle that can drop from the Wall Of Flesh) for the benefit of much higher damage and criticals. The Clockwork Hunting Rifle is effectively a precursor to the Post Plantera Dungeon’s Sniper Rifle, and is available post Skeletron Prime: both weapons are highly accurate guns with very damaging bullets.
The Clockwork Hunting Rifle is quite a bit slow for a firearm; it still does autofire, though. The CHR fires a lot more slowly than its precursor the Clockwork Assault Rifle, or automatic guns like the Uzi or Megashark that are available at similar times. However, it hits so much harder as an improvement. The Clockwork Hunting Rifle also deals more frequent critical shots. Even non rangers can make good use of this weapon. However, it does lack a scope.
The Clockwork Hunting Rifle can truly be likened to an upgraded Musket, but is unique in that it’s available in both Corrupt and Crimson worlds. It is also unique in that the upgrade entirely changes the weapon. Normal shots (Musket Balls) are also converted to Silver Bullets, adding a little extra damage to each shot. It’s even useful against Werewolves for this very reason.
Finally, because this weapon actually deals slight knockback with its projectiles, the Clockwork Hunting Rifle can get the Unreal modifier; this is unlike the Clockwork Assault Rifle, its precursor, which deals no knockback, and can only get the best modifier of Agile.
