Other Loadouts change

This but if you can't favorite armor, favoriting armor would make switching back n forth between spectre mask and hood a bit too easy.
It's already exceptionally easy to obtain Chlorophyte and Ectoplasm really isn't difficult to obtain extra of either. Making another Robe and Pants doesn't sound hard at all; I don't think letting you copy it across multiple loadouts would really be overpowered.

Maybe make it so it doesn’t technically “favorite” it but instead just kicks the marked items in question over to the next loadout as you swap, with the requirement being that there must be no other items occupying that slot position in the other loadouts.
That is almost exactly what Badname was suggesting, yes. Favoriting an item in one loadout would make it appear in the other loadouts as well; how is this any different?

There’s also a pretty good chance they implemented the loadout mechanic not so you can rapidly swap between bonuses mid-battle but so you can set up separate loadouts for bigger things, like:
  • Boss/Invasion
  • Exploration
  • Building
  • Fishing
I'm not sure why you're bringing that up, but the suggestion wasn't trying to change that.

The issue was that some accessories are quite rare or expensive (like Bundle of Balloons, some rare wings, and dev sets) that you might really want on other loadouts for whatever reason, be it vanity or functionality, and the current loadout system would require you to obtain said items multiple times. This suggestion aimed to fix that issue; it was never suggested as something that was supposed to make quick-swapping more effective, and honestly, I don't even really see how it would.

While not overpowered, swapping between healing and damage spectre is pretty damn strong. Especially since you can hotkey your loadouts closer to your hand/on the mouse itself

You can already do that though, and it isn't difficult; making it easier isn't going to change very much. You also don't even need an extra set of armor, just an extra helmet; just right-click the helmet while it's in your inventory and it'll swap the armor from damage to healing

My thoughts could just be my underutilization of the loadout mechanic itself, while you can easily take advantage of Spectre with this maybe that ain't so bad considering the QoL

What about having a favorite vanity set that you like, and you do not want to obtain 3 of these sets? Like, if you want to have the same vanity set for each loadout

Loadouts are great, with the click of a button I can go from a tanky melee build to a glass cannon build or to a fishing setup.

What's wrong?

The fact that you have to grind 3 sets of armour and accessories. This is exceptionally annoying to me. Often, there are some things you just want to use in every build. And often they are hard to get multiple of. For example, ankh shield, wings according to your progression, insignia, boots (esp terraspark if you prefer those over amphibian), destroyer emblem, celestial shell, frozen shield etc.

The biggest offender to me is vanity. I am someone who uses one set every time I play and it's a hard to get set. It requires rare developer items I am not fond of getting manually. Even when I cheat in my vanity, I find it pretty annoying to spawn in 40 items for one character which I will likely replace soon as I am playing hardcore.

How can it be fixed?
I have come up with a simple solution to this. This doesn't add any new buttons or items or keybinds. It simply makes use of an existing mechanic: favouriting.

I propose that you should be able to favourite items in your loadouts. (Armour, accessories, vanity, dyes) and they will carry over to all your loadouts. You can't favourite an item if you are using the slot in another loadout. If you take the item out, the slot will be free to use on all your loadouts. If you unfavourite an item, it will stay in the loadout you are currently using and will be empty for other loadouts. This way you get the full potential of loadouts without having to grind a lot more.

Let me know what you think!

Hi @thisisabadname it looks like you’re using the example that Olle linked that came from a Reddit post by GetTheKness69. Unless you are GetTheKness69, it would be good to add in your original post that the visual you’re using wasn’t made by you, and provide a link back to where it came from.

I meant to do that but I forgot, I will add it now.

Did you find any other situations where this is super beneficial?

Multiclassing, or using multiple types of weapons e.g. shroomite, or if you dont want the aggro sometimes but other times need the defense for beetle armor.

It's only really useful when you wanna change 1-2 things about your loadout, like using ankh shield/lower components to insta remove a debuff then switch back, spectre hood/mask swapping, swapping into your regen set mid fight like crimson or palladium then switching back to damage, disabling paint sprayer as a builder, or if you really wanna be cheeky you can swap your wings and dash into a slot and have a full damage slot and essentially dodge/dash with 1 loadout and going to other loadouts to maximize damage. I haven't been testing recently just that day I talked about it, definitely an unexplored part of loadouts is the swapping mid-fight and that's mainly due to the fact that you have to acquire most of your accessories and armor twice

Not really. If you really want something like this you can use autopause to swap out those accessories when your inventory is open. I don't see how making it easier to do something you can already achieve with immense tedium is bad for the game. If anything, autopause swapping is the problem here, not loadouts. As long as that's in the game I don't really see quick-swapping as an argument.

Again I've already explained autopause and I'm not arguing about this anymore, just answering a question

I think autopause is fair and so is this

@Redigit🌳 A lot of people support this suggestion, please consider it

Has this been considered for 1.4.5? Would make me finally use loadouts, I've been so excited for this feature only to see that is SO annoying due to this small inconvenience... @Redigit🌳 please consider this to be in the next update!
