High Contrast Resource Pack

Greetings once again, fellow Terrarians! Welcome to my High Contrast Texture Pack (v1.45).
Please continue below to read more about my texture pack.
What is the "High Contrast Texture Pack"?
High Contrast is an experimental attempt to overhaul the original textures of Terraria using a 5.5-bit color palette. The goal is to style all items differently enough to prevent confusion in the best way possible with the extended, yet small palette that derives from a system setting of the same name. Alongside the greater inspiration behind this project, "High Contrast" settings on the Windows OS, other factors include dark themes and minimalism. At the moment, High Contrast is only accessible from the Steam Workshop and most likely will remain that way. Palette
Originally, this texture pack was to be created with a much smaller palette, consisting of 6 colors and 4 shades, which has since been expanded. The original 10 colors and shades were:- Red
- Yellow
- Green
- Cyan
- Blue
- Magenta
- White*
- Gray*
- Dark Gray*
- Black*
The expanded color palette can be described as a 5.5-bit color palette (or 6-bit with 20 missing colors/shades), which derives from the 10 listed above. The list has now been expanded to include:
- 6 new color mixtures created as hybrids between the original colors listed above.
- 24 more colors by giving the combined original and expanded sets of 12 colors a lighter and darker variant respectively,
- 4 new shades. 3 created as hybrids between the existing shades; This adds a Light Gray, a Dim Gray, and Darker Gray. Finally, an even darker gray just between "Darker Gray" and Black.
^^ The names may differ from the preceding explanation, however their values - and the methods to obtain them - remain the same.
When all is said and done, this texture pack has a mixture of 44 colors and shades within the palette, and has such been coined, a 5.5-bit palette.
Palette Rules
These are the guidelines I have set for myself when I edit Terraria's sprite sheets using the aforementioned palette:- All high contrast textures must not contain any other color or shade than what is provided in the palette described above.
- Colors and shades are allowed to have transparency, however, no translucent color or shade is allowed to overlap with another color or shade.
All about Updates
Release Expectations :: This texture pack has no specific full release date. Changes will be made at a steady rate of 25 items (excluding related tiles/walls/etc.) per update. Information on each version update can be found in the "Change Notes" of the related Steam Workshop item [here].* I am currently aiming for 5~7 updates per year. I know it is a bit slow but there a many other things to be done beyond this project.
* The contents of this forum will be updated on every 5th version released to the Steam Workshop.
The spoiler below is a condensed summary of all updates so far. View the "Gallery" spoiler to view images of the High Contrast Resource pack.
Version 1.00 ~ 1.10
- Initially focused on many natural tiles (not walls) such as dirt, stones, ores, trees, etc.
- Later focus to other tiles such as ambient objects (like dirt piles, lily pads, or that random tent), statues, building blocks, traps, so forth...
- Some non-tile objects were also done: coins, tile cracks, fallen star... and for some unknown reason, Gel.
Version 1.11 ~ 1.25
- Fewer natural blocks / tiles, more building blocks, and initiation of walls starting with natural walls.
- Continuation into mostly non-natural walls and building blocks... and for some reason "Magical Ice Block" (from "Ice Rod")
- In v1.22, the first real (yet minor) overhaul was made:
Version 1.26 ~ 1.34
- I began working on the backgrounds starting from the the underground and cavern layers through to the underworld.
- Continuation of many non-natural walls and building blocks. Other objects such as furniture began on the later side of this version range.
- In v1.30, the 1.4.4 update arrived and changed up some sprites; those sprites were revisited and some extra work was done.
- v1.30 and 1.31 would see a major overhaul with Luminite Brick Transmutations (when Luminite Brick is shimmered) (Block and Walls).
- A few textures from earlier version got a redesign to look nicer and be easier on the eyes.
- In v1.33, I optimized the resource pack by converting all the content .png images to .xnb, finally.
Version 1.35 ~ 1.44
- Continuation of some non-natural walls and building blocks, including furniture and other contents such as liquids and later, dust particles.
- Continuation of backgrounds, now handling the sky and surface background textures.
- In some versions, more contents were fully overhauled such as wire tiles, strange plants, and currency.
Latest Version Summary (1.45)
- '40' contents added
- Remaining candles of furniture sets including Water Candle, Peace Candle, and Shadow Candle.
- Dust particles (from v1.04 and v1.05), Solidifier, Kiln, Ice Machine, and Honey Dispenser.

Future Release Summary :: An idea of the road map ahead for groups of things that will be done in (distant) future High Contrast updates.
- Furniture, Decorations, and Mechanism Blocks
- Tool / Weapon items
- Accessories, Armor, Vanity
- Entities (Player, NPCs)
- Graphical User Interface (GUI)
Resource Pack Divisions :: Splitting up the texture pack into groups. Some may only want the world to be textured, or maybe the UI. I do not plan on splitting up the texture pack very much but here are the divisions that will be available in the future.
- High Contrast (this texture pack) -- All textures are included.
- Saturate Evil -- Only contents related to the Crimson, Corruption, and Hallow. May also include all Bosses and related contents. (To Be Done)
- Music -- Only includes the "High Contrast OST", a stylized mix of Terraria music that will pair with this resource pack. (To Be Done, Work In Progress)
- Currently, I am "practicing" to find my style of Terraria music for this purpose. You can sample my attempts here: [Terraria Music Attempts Vol.1]
