Not every one is as generous as Scott is and people need to respect that. As not every Indie game studio will like it.I would rather you not. Ultimately this is a private matter.
To be clear, legally speaking “but it’s a free fangame” does not exempt anyone from copyright or trademark issues. It is solely up to the rights holder as to if they feel it’s a big enough issue to address.
Again, we love new devs chasing their dreams with their own ideas. Wish these folks would do that instead of taking our IP and using the value of our franchise to gain publicity they would not otherwise have.
Somewhat tongue in cheek joke here - but I can imagine what Microsoft would do if someone legitimately tried to make a 2D minecraft copy (all the way down to the same enemies and items and concepts and more.). Sandbox games share some common elements - but there are very clear parts of each of them that are far from common (eg. Specific items or enemies or characters etc).
Anyway, will see what’s up I suppose. No need for anyone to get all up in arms haha. I more just wanted to provide clarification since I hadn’t seen this thread before.![]()
Also I think making a video on it would help spread the message. As there have been large YouTubers who have made videos on it and should see it as after all not everyone is going to have an account here. Also the fact that he is getting praised for litteral plagiarism is disgusting to me. At least FNAF fangames have mostly original characters with there own twists and have permission. This doesn't have either of these.

It's still a bad idea to make a public spectacle about the situationNot every one is as generous as Scott is and people need to respect that. As not every Indie game studio will like it.

Especially since LOKI HIMSELF says it's a private manner, I feel you should respect his wishes to not make a video about it

Correct. This is a private business matter that I will handle professionally. My sole intent in this thread was to answer an apparently long-unanswered question that I ran across. I appreciate the sentiment, but a public spectacle benefits no one and nothing.
So, please, just let me handle it.

Hi there. I am a sponser for Linesway (the creator of Terraria 3D), and I might as well chip in to give in some context.
1. Most of the work in game is self-made. In fact, sprites aren't used anymore as Linesway now uses 3d images of the items to be used in inventory. The only thing that is used from Terraria are the namesake, the stuff in-game, and the sounds. Everything else is made by itself.
2. Linesway uses a one-time payment to help support the project in order to pay for UE5 plugins. He uses Voxel 2.0, FluidFlux, and other plugins to help make the in-game generation feel better. Each cost more than +$300, and nothing else is required. The only reason why you would pay for sponsorship would to play the game early (Alpha release), and the base version costs $5.
3. Linesway and Redigit came to an agreement when it came to copyright, which can be seen at the end of this video:
(around 08:12). Even if you don't believe it, you can personally join the Discord server (in description of the video), and contact Linesway for any questions.
I hope that you all do not jump in and try to badmouth the project because of ignorance. I truly hope that everyone here can come to a reasonable conclusion. Thank you, and have a good day.
EDIT 1: The bullying is literally a joke between the entire server, as we all pinged him like 40 times a day. Don't take it seriously, it was all in good fun.

im also part of the discord and jackie is right and the agreement they came too if i remember right is linesway cant use any terraria specific namesake in his game. this means that many things can still be used just not unique terms that are specific to terraria. So unlike Loki said, it is actually allowed through redigit themselves.
You can rest assured that I am well aware of all past conversations. I am well aware of most all details at this point.
This very much is a copyright and trademark issue. I feel as though the team on that end has grossly misunderstood the request from said past discussions. So, for clarity:
The use of ANY concepts, names, the name Terraria itself and any and all references are not and have not ever been granted permission for use by Re-Logic or any member thereof. That means you can’t have items, bosses, mobs, armors, etc etc etc that could be considered under the Terraria IP. Not in text, sound, or images - even “modified” to be 3D.
This isn’t just about changing some names and text. It’s the whole thing.
The fact of the matter is that this project would not have any notoriety whatsoever had it not traded off the back of the popularity of our legally-protected IP. That isn’t a knock on the clear talent of the folks involved - they should channel that talent and effort into something original of their own creation.
For example, a generic pickaxe, sure, that is in every sandbox game ever.
Wall of Flesh? Nope
Weapons that would clearly be identified as from Terraria? Nope
and so on…
You cannot use the name, image, or even the likeness/concepts of any of this. This has moved well beyond “fan art”. This is not parody or satire or anything of the like.
Again, the talents and time of this team would be better spent working on original content rather than an attempt to co-opt our IP.
Again, this is a private business matter that should and will be handled in that fashion. This is all a conversation to be had with Linesway, really, but I hope this gives you some clarity. I will be reaching out to him soon in regards to this matter. I would ask that anyone not involved in that process please allow it to be handled properly.

I completely understand, and the team fully understands that. Rest assured that the names will be changed in the soon to be future. As for the items, bosses, and etc, that is up to Relogic and Linesway to figure out.You can rest assured that I am well aware of all past conversations. Appreciated.
That said, again, I think there is a large misunderstanding as to the scope of what is needed here. I would very much prefer to work that out in a private, professional, fashion with the project owner themselves - which I will start the process of this coming week.
This goes way and well beyond just changing some names - but that is indeed part of it.
In the meantime, I will reiterate what I said before:
My sole intent in this thread was to answer an apparently long-unanswered question that I ran across. I appreciate the sentiment, but a public spectacle benefits no one and nothing.

As Loki stated, this is a private matter now, there is no need for further speculation and opining from the community at large.
