NPCs & Enemies Skyborn: Enemies that live on Floating Islands.

Skyborn are enemies that are sometimes found on Floating Islands. They can be seen doing idle things when you are out of their detection range, such as gardening, or reading. If two live together, they might talk to one another like NPCs tend to do, or might even flirt. Some sit in chairs as well. Although Harpies are said to own the treasure on Floating Islands in lore, Skyborn are sometimes seen as welcomed guests in their manors.

Skyborn resemble humans in what appears to be almost like a black mo cap suit, but the white balls are instead yellow lightning bolts. Skyborn can come in different skin tones, but are otherwise identical in behavior and stats. Male and female skyborn exist. They never show their hair, given the suits. Some wear glasses; this changes nothing as well.

When the Skyborn see you, they will walk towards you at a slightly slow rate, and generate a field of lightning in a circle around themselves when near you. This attack leaves you Electrified. When attacking, they close their eyes, smile, and extend their hands. The Skyborn can pack a real punch, especially in Pre-Hardmode. In Hardmode, they can still be quite deadly.

The Skyborn cannot fly exactly like Harpies, but can walk on walls and ceilings. If directly below you (if you fly for example), the Skyborn might rocket towards you with electricity. They can only rocket towards you in the four cardinal directions, and have a limit of "flight", before falling down to the ground and then doing a sitting pose for a few seconds, and then resuming the attacks.

The Skyborn rarely drop the Zap Suit, which does the same thing as an accessory. They drop a fair bit of coins as well.

Bestiary Entry: Some humans had fled to a life in the skies to avoid the chaos that happens below. These skyborn humans aren't welcoming to outsiders, and tend to fry them with their specialized shock suits.

In Expert and Master Mode, Skyborn can also rush forward on the ground as an attack as well, and move faster. Their forward rush leaves damaging static on the ground behind them for a bit. Their electric fields from their main attack also spin a small electric laser around themselves. The Skyborn also deal quire more damage, like all enemies. In Master Mode..pray to the lord you have good gear.

Skyborn have a unique weakness; water based weapons can short the Skyborn out and disable their attacks. Try to keep the Aqua Scepter on you when dealing with the vicious Skyborn. Even a harmless Water Gun has its use shorting them out. Skyborn actively avoid bodies of water for the same reason.

The Skyborn, outside of the Pirates, are one of the only human enemies in the game. They seem to not like humanity from down below, as is told by their bestiary. Because of dark humor, Skyborn make hurt noises like you do: they sound like the default hurt noises depending on their gender.

MY PERSONAL HEADCANON: What is the reason the Skyborn hate humanity? It's because they think they are doomed to repeat the same mistakes of the past. Skyborn have developed a isolationist mindset.

And out of all of humanity, the Skyborn hate you the most, due to being aware that you would bring ancient evils to light. That's why these Skyborn humans had hid in the skies.

They see you not as a hero of legend, but a villain that aid and abetts genocide. This implies that the Skyborn view other members of humanity above you in ranking almost like you're some devil.

FINAL FACT: Some of the houses that have Skyborn have a painting of the Guide being surrounded by the Wall of Flesh. They seem to hate him.

Any thoughts? Heh

They seem like unnecessarily punishing enemies. How big is the lightning aura?

Not too large; about one third the radius of the Dryad's aura. You can get away, since they don't move when attacking normally with the field.

And their rocket attack of "flight" is only done up, down, left, or right. This means if they move one way, you can dispatch them by dodging.

I drew concept art for these starborn people bc I was bored, I think the sound like a cool replacement for harpies after defeating the Martian madness, but they kinda feel like they would fit into some terraria mod with post moonlord bosses rather than vanilla even though you said they spawn in early game.

Oh my God I love it! :o

Sure..the way you describe it.. yeah..they could be Post-Golem. I realize they're definitely way too difficult to face early on. Their high damage could be dealt with then.

The lore implication is that they stole Martian tech?

Actually.. better yet..Post-Moon Lord. The Skyborn hear that you killed the Moon Lord and came from the skies to fight you for summoning him in the first place lol

There could be variants of Skyborn with different abilities.

One with a plasma rifle, for instance, or one with two shock swords?

They could be difficult to deal with, having large HP.
