Xbox 360 Stuck in the menu system on Xbox 360

Ok, so I realise I'm probably stupid, but I can't start Terarria on XBox 360 because I'm stuck in the menu system.

I go new game, empty slot, it want's me to make a character, I go through all 10 stages, but then it just goes back to stage 1 (hair), I've pressed every button on the controller, but can't get out of this screen! All I can do is press Back, (B) and it asks me if I'd like to leave without creating a character!

What am I doing wrong? Help!

I'm pretty sure you just need to hit the 'Start' button to create your character. It's the little white button to the right of the Xbox home button in the middle of the controller.
